Day Trips from Lembongan: Ceningan, Penida
Choosing a Day Trip
Three outings work well from Nusa Lembongan: Nusa Ceningan on foot or two wheels, a full day on Nusa Penida by public boat, and a return run to Bali. The first fits a half day, the second needs an early start, and all of them depend on the weather and the last boat home.
Nusa Ceningan, Half a Day
Cross the Yellow Bridge, a 140 m span for pedestrians, bicycles and motorbikes, then follow the waterfront path. Sea Breeze has a pool, swings and hammocks over the water, and Suku Beach Club asks for a minimum spend of about IDR 150,000 to 300,000 per person. Mahana Point, a cliff bar at the south-west corner, has jump platforms of about 5 and 10 metres that work at high tide only, for about IDR 25,000 and 50,000 a jump. The Blue Lagoon is a free, unfenced cliff cove about 70 to 90 minutes’ walk from Lembongan Village. Look at it from the path and stay back from the edge, since swell can reach the rocks. Drones are not allowed there. Jumping is at your own risk and not suitable for families or novices.
Nusa Penida, a Full Day
Public boats leave from the Yellow Bridge for Toyapakeh about every hour from 06:30 to 16:00. The crossing takes 10 to 15 minutes and costs about IDR 50,000 to 60,000 one way. From Toyapakeh hire a car and driver for the west-coast circuit of Kelingking, Broken Beach, Angel’s Billabong and Crystal Bay. Penida roads are rough, so scooters are risky.
Since 1 September 2026 each major Penida attraction sells its own QR ticket, about IDR 25,000 per site, on top of the island entry fee. Take care at two places. The path down the cliff at Kelingking is dangerous, and swimming at its beach is banned. Angel’s Billabong has killed visitors at mid to high tide, so stay out of the pool when the sea is running. Leave enough time to make the last boat back.
Lembongan as a Day from Bali
Fast boats from Sanur reach Jungut Batu or Mushroom Bay in about 30 minutes, which makes a day on the island plus a snorkel tour realistic. The first departure is around 07:00 and the last boats back leave about 17:00. Most boats land on the beach and passengers wade ashore in ankle to knee deep water, so pack a dry bag. Rocky Fast Cruise lands dry at its own jetty by the Yellow Bridge. In the wet season, from December to March, swell cancels sailings. Boats do not run on Nyepi, 9 March 2027.
Several fast-boat accidents in 2025 and 2026 make a few habits worthwhile: wear the lifejacket, choose a morning crossing, and check the weather and the operator before you pay. One boat sank at its Lembongan berth in June 2025 with no casualties, and another capsized at the Sanur port entrance in August 2025 with two passengers dead.
Mainland Add-On
Back in Sanur you can hire a driver for Ubud or stroll the beachfront promenade before dinner.
