Things to Do on Nusa Lembongan
The Island in Brief
Nusa Lembongan is a low coral island of about 8 square kilometres in Klungkung Regency, roughly 30 minutes by fast boat from Sanur on Bali. The activities here are mostly in or on the water: reef dives, surf breaks, a mangrove channel and sheltered beaches. There are no mountains, waterfalls, rafting or zip lines, and no buses. The island is small enough to cover by bicycle, scooter or on foot.
Diving and Drift Diving
Dive centres line the Jungut Batu beachfront. Blue Corner Dive, Lembongan Dive Center, World Diving Lembongan, Legend Diving Lembongan and Two Fish Divers all run fun dives and courses. Two fun dives cost about IDR 1,100,000, with a day trip to Manta Point adding about IDR 100,000 a day, and a PADI Open Water course is around US$395. Prices differ by operator, so ask for a written quote.
Blue Corner, on the north-west coast, is a reef wall from about 10 to 40 metres with a moderate to strong, unpredictable current. It is a drift dive for experienced divers, and about 50 logged dives is the usual advice. The Mangrove site (7 to 15 metres) suits all levels, and the Pontoon site (4 to 10 metres) is the gentle one for beginners. From July to October, cold water of 18 to 22 C brings mola mola to the deeper walls, though sightings are never guaranteed.
Surfing
The surf season runs from April to September or October, with the southeast wind. Playgrounds is the most forgiving of the three main breaks, though still a challenge for first-timers. Lacerations and Shipwrecks break over shallow reef and suit intermediate to advanced surfers, who should wear reef booties and watch the tide. Monkey Surfing and Newbro Surfing give lessons, with two-hour sessions listed at roughly US$40 to 77.
Mangroves by Boat, Kayak or Paddleboard
The mangrove forest in the north-east is best at mid to high tide. A traditional boat trip costs about IDR 187,500 per person with a minimum of two, and kayak, paddleboard or boat tours start around US$12 for an hour. The entrance fee is usually bundled into the price.
Yoga
Yoga Bliss Lembongan has an open-air shala behind Green Garden Restaurant in central Lembongan, with daily drop-in classes. Serenity Yoga Lembongan, at the northern end, runs paddleboard yoga among the seaweed farms. Yoga Dunia is a third option.
Ocean Safety
The south-west coast faces the open Indian Ocean. Dream Beach is for views and sunbathing, because rip currents run along it and strong swimmers only should consider the water. Devil’s Tear is a lookout: stay behind the rope barriers, keep off wet rock, and do not swim, climb or jump there. Several visitors have died at the cove since 2015.
Across the Yellow Bridge on Nusa Ceningan, Mahana Point has cliff-jump platforms of about 5 and 10 metres, usable at high tide only, at roughly IDR 25,000 and 50,000 a jump. Jumping is at your own risk and not a good plan for children or newcomers.
Costs and Money
Bali charges international visitors a one-off tourist levy of IDR 150,000, paid online through the official Love Bali site . A small island entry fee of about IDR 25,000 per adult applies across the Nusa islands and is often bundled into tours. Snorkel and dive packages usually include the marine protected area fee, but confirm it. Many shops add a 3 to 5 percent card surcharge, and ATMs stand near Mushroom Bay and Jungut Batu.
