Luxembourg Romantic Weekend Ideas
Luxembourg suits a quiet weekend for two: wine cellars on the Moselle, ramparts above the Grund and a seasonal winter market. There are no packaged romance experiences here, so the ideas below are things you arrange yourselves. Second-class trains, trams and buses are free nationwide, which keeps getting around simple. Prices are in euros.
A Moselle wine weekend
Base yourselves in Remich or Grevenmacher and visit the cellars. Caves St Martin in Remich runs a 45 minute guided tour through limestone tunnels with one glass of wine or cremant for EUR 9, Wednesday to Sunday from mid-March to mid-December. Caves Bernard-Massard in Grevenmacher offers a guided tour with one glass for about EUR 8, Wednesday to Sunday from April to the end of October and by arrangement after that. Book ahead, and note that tasting hours differ from shop hours. See the Caves St Martin listing .
The Corniche and the Grund at dusk
The Chemin de la Corniche is a free walkway along the old ramparts from the Bock promontory, with views down into the Grund. A nickname credited to the writer Batty Weber calls it the most beautiful balcony in Europe. Walk it near sunset, then go down into the Grund for dinner. Public transport is free, so you can leave the car behind. The city tourist office lists the Bock Casemates tours that start near the same promontory.
Pfaffenthal lift at night
The free panoramic lift from Pescatore park to the Pfaffenthal valley is listed as open from 05:45 to 01:00, so it works for an evening view of the old town lit up. It is out of order on the first Monday of each month. The funicular to Kirchberg is also free.
Winter lights
Luxembourg City’s winter season brings a market on Place d’Armes, the Wantermaart on Place de la Constitution with a Ferris wheel, the Niklosmaart on Place de Paris and an ice rink at Kinnekswiss. The 2026 season is reported to run from 20 November to 3 January, so confirm dates locally before booking a trip around it.
Solar boat on the Upper Sure
From May to 1 October a guided solar boat leaves Insenborn for about 2 hours on the Upper Sure Lake. An adult ticket is EUR 10. Booking is required, there are no trips on Mondays and dogs are not allowed. The boat is closed now, so it is a spring or summer plan.
Where to stay
Grand Hotel Cravat on boulevard Roosevelt in the capital and Chateau d’Urspelt, near Clervaux, which has a spa, appear on booking sites as operating hotels. Compare current prices and reviews before you choose, and book early for the winter weeks.
Practical notes
- The Petrusse and Bock casemate tours have limited places and fixed slots, so reserve them if you want a guided hour together.
- English is understood at tourist sites, though Luxembourgish, French and German are the local languages.
