Jūrmala Spa Break: A 3 Day Plan
Who This Suits
Jūrmala suits a 2 to 3 night spa and seaside break. It is a base for walking, museums, concerts and spa days rather than for long touring, and there is no circuit of linked stops to follow across several days. Use the days below to fill a short stay, and add Riga, 30 minutes away by train, if you want more time.
A Three-Day Pattern
Day 1: Majori and Dzintari. Walk the pedestrian Jomas iela, then visit Jūrmala Museum (Tirgoņu iela 29), which is free and open Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. Walk east to Dzintari Forest Park and the beach. In the evening, hear a concert in the Small Hall of Dzintari Concert Hall, which holds concerts all year. The programme is at dzintarukoncertzale.lv .
Day 2: Dunes, museum and spa. Go to Buļļuciems for the Ragakāpa dune trails and the Open-Air Museum (Tīklu iela 1A), a free fisherman’s farmstead that is closed on Mondays. Spend the afternoon at a hotel spa session.
Day 3: Ķemeri and home. Take the train to Ķemeri for the historic resort park and the Great Ķemeri Bog boardwalk, then continue by train to Riga. The park’s water tower, with decks at 12 m and 42 m, is open from about late April to late October.
Hotel Spa Breaks
- Baltic Beach Hotel & SPA (Jūras iela 23/25, Majori): sea-water pools and sauna rituals, with a restaurant, Amber VIEW.
- Hotel Jūrmala Spa (Jomas iela 47/49): pools and saunas, with a Wellness Oasis open to day visitors.
- Kurshi Hotel & Spa (Ceriņu iela 22, Dubulti): a spa and the restaurant KURSHI Terase.
- Villa Joma (Jomas iela 90): a hotel with its own restaurant.
Spa day prices run from EUR 30 to EUR 49 per person, depending on the hotel, the day and the time allowed. Compare rooms and packages on Booking.com .
Medical Stays
Jūrmala has a long tradition of mud and mineral-water treatment. The Jaunķemeri Rehabilitation Centre (jaunkemeri.lv ) works year-round, with mud applications, mineral baths and inpatient rehabilitation, roughly 300 m from the sea. Stays run 7 to 14 days. They are prescription-based medical programmes, not a casual spa. The old sanatoria Belorusija and Jantarnij Bereg (Dzintarkrasts) are closed under EU sanctions and take no guests.
Practical Tips
Arrive by train and you pay no city entry fee. Drivers pay EUR 5 per vehicle per day, all year, at card-only machines. The Baltic is cold and shallow, so a spa session suits a wet or windy afternoon. In winter, keep off the sea and river ice.
