Jūrmala Sightseeing: Villas, Museums, Dunes
Majori
Majori is the commercial and tourist core, with the central station. Jomas iela is a pedestrian street about 1.1 km long, car-free since 1987. Wooden buildings, cafes and shops line it, and the bronze Turtle sculpture stands close to the beach end. Jūrmala Museum (Tirgoņu iela 29) is free and open Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00. Its permanent exhibition follows the Rīga Jūrmala and Ķemeri resorts through the 18th to 20th centuries, and it holds the largest swimsuit collection in Latvia, old postcards and an art collection. See jurmalasmuzejs.lv for current hours.
Dzintari
Dzintari Concert Hall (Turaidas iela 1) has a Small Hall built in 1936 by the architects Viktors Mellenbergs and Aleksandrs Birzenieks, reopened after restoration in 2015. The open-air Great Hall seats about 2,000 and is the summer venue. Tours run for groups, and the programme is at dzintarukoncertzale.lv . Nearby, the neo-Gothic wooden summer-house complex of Kristaps and Auguste Morbergs (Dzintaru prospekts 52/54) is a protected monument. View it from the street.
Dubulti
Dubulti Lutheran Church (Baznīcas iela 13) was built in 1907 to 1909, and its spire is a landmark. Wilhelm Bockslaff is credited as architect, with Edgars Frīzendorfs. Art Station Dubulti is a free contemporary-art gallery in the 1970s modernist railway station, with changing exhibitions and hours of about 09:00 to 18:00.
Aspazija’s House (Z. Meierovica prospekts 18/20) is the 1903 wooden villa where the poet Aspazija spent her last decade. Entry is free. The main exhibition is closed for building works from September 2026, so go for the house itself, the garden sculpture and any events. Check with the museum first.
Bulduri and Buļļuciems
Bulduri Exhibition House (Muižas iela 6) is a Jūrmala Museum branch with changing exhibitions and the Bulduru audējas weaving studio. It opens Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00, plus Sunday 11:00 to 16:00 in summer.
The Jūrmala Open-Air Museum (Tīklu iela 1A) is a late 19th century coastal fisherman’s farmstead with a dwelling, barn, net shed, smokehouse, bathing hut, boats and a rope-making workshop. Entry is free, and it is closed on Mondays. Picnic and fire sites and audio guides cost extra.
Ragakāpa Nature Park protects a dune about 17 m high, the tallest point in this flat city. Pine woods and marked trails with boardwalks, a few kilometres in all, run near the Lielupe mouth. Entry is free.
Ķemeri
Ķemeri Resort Park (Tukuma iela 32) is the historic spa park of the western end. Its restored water tower has platforms at 12 m and 42 m. Entry is free, but the 42 m deck needs advance booking. The tower is open from about late April to late October.
Planning Tips
Visit Jūrmala publishes a Wooden Architecture Guide with route maps. Jūrmala is a ribbon about 25 km long, so choose two districts a day and ride the Vivi train between them. Most of these sights are free.
