Family Activities in Mumbai
Families in Mumbai have a short list of dependable indoor stops: a science centre and planetarium in Worli, a zoo with penguins in Byculla, a museum next door to the zoo and a water park at Gorai. Prices are in Indian rupees (INR). There is no safe sea swimming for children anywhere in the city, so keep beach time to a look from the promenade, and stay off the sea wall at high tide.
Nehru Science Centre
The centre in Worli is open daily from 09:30 to 18:00, including Sundays, and the ticket counter closes at 17:30. It is closed on Diwali and Holi. General entry is INR 100, with add-ons for the 3D science show (INR 50), the Science Park (INR 50) and the motion simulator (INR 70). A five-item package is INR 250, which works out to INR 800 for a family of four. Check the current list on the official ticket page .
Nehru Planetarium
Next door, the planetarium charges INR 150 for anyone aged 5 and over; there is no separate child rate. It is closed on Mondays and on listed holidays, which in 2026 include 8 November (Diwali) and 11 November (Bhaubeej). There are four daily shows of “The Moon Mission”: 12:00 in Hindi, 13:30 in Marathi, 15:00 in English and 16:30 in Hindi. The counter is open 11:00 to 17:00, and there is no same-day online booking, so buy tickets on arrival. The show page lists the schedule.
Byculla Zoo and the Bhau Daji Lad Museum
The Rani Baug zoo in Byculla is best known for its Humboldt penguins. One undated source gives a Wednesday closure and entry of INR 50 for adults and INR 25 for children, but a rate for foreign visitors and any family pass are unconfirmed, so ask at the gate. A planned tunnel aquarium and exotic zoo is only a budget proposal and is not open.
The Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum stands beside the zoo and reopened in January 2025 after restoration. It is open 10:00 to 17:30 and closed one weekday, so confirm the day before you go.
CSMVS for older children
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya is open daily from 10:15 to 18:00, with the counter closing at 17:45. It shuts only on 26 January, 1 May, 15 August and 2 October. Foreign children up to 15 pay INR 200, and an Indian child aged 5 to 15 pays INR 40. See the visitor page for details. Some galleries close for works, and handheld camera passes cost extra.
Water Kingdom at Gorai
Water Kingdom is the water park that still operates at Gorai. Its ticket list, valid from 1 April 2026, gives INR 1,180 for adults taller than 4 ft 6 in, INR 997 for children between 3 ft 3 in and 4 ft 6 in and free entry below 3 ft 3 in. It opens from 10:00 to 18:00. Its monsoon operation is not stated, so check on the park’s ticket page . The neighbouring EsselWorld rides park has been closed since April 2022.
A word on Dharavi
Reality Tours and Travel accepts children of any age, but it lists low roofs, open drains, exposed wiring and fumes. That makes it a call for parents rather than a standard family outing.
