Jaipur Multi-Day Trips: Golden Triangle Legs
Jaipur is the middle corner of the Golden Triangle, and the distances on either side are long enough that every leg deserves its own plan. Here is how the road legs and overnight stops fit together.
Delhi, Jaipur and Agra
Delhi to Jaipur is about 280 km and takes 4.5-5 hours by road. From Jaipur, Agra is 240 km and takes 4-5 hours each way, so a round trip in a single day means nine or ten hours in a vehicle. Give Agra and the Taj Mahal at least one night. Hotel searches are easiest on Booking.com , and even fast trains take over three hours each way plus station transfers.
Ranthambore
Ranthambore National Park is about 180-200 km from Jaipur and takes 3.5-4 hours by road. Plan one or two nights near the park. Core zones 1-5 reopened on 1 October, while the monsoon months from July to September close the core. Safaris are booked online up to 30 days ahead on the official wildlife portal , with vehicle type and quota affecting the cost. Details on the park are on Wikipedia . Tiger safari packages that include transfers and a lodge are on offer through operators on GetYourGuide .
Pushkar and Ajmer
These two lie about 135-140 km west, roughly 2.5-3 hours away. They work as a long day, but one night in Pushkar avoids a late drive back and gives you time at the lake. Pair them with the day trips page for the shorter alternatives.
Onward in Rajasthan
Jodhpur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer continue the circuit to the west and south. Distances there are long and the transport differs from the Jaipur region, so plan each as its own stage with a train or a private driver rather than squeezing it onto a Jaipur itinerary.
Visa and entry
Travellers from the US and UK need an e-visa for India. The 30-day version costs US$25 from July to March and US$10 from April to June, with about 3% bank charge on top. Apply at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least four days ahead. The UK Foreign Office advice lists the regions to avoid, none of which are in Rajasthan.
Sample shapes
- Four nights: two in Jaipur, one in Agra, one on the road back or onward to Delhi.
- Six nights: two in Jaipur, two near Ranthambore, one in Agra, one in Delhi.
- A slower week: three in Jaipur with a Pushkar night, then Ranthambore.
Carrying less
A private car and driver for the whole loop is common. Heat reaches 40-45C between April and June, so air conditioning and early starts matter more than speed.
Tip: book the Ranthambore safari as soon as the 30-day window opens, then build the rest of the route around that date.
