Walking Route Through Wieliczka
The best way to see Wieliczka above ground is a self-guided loop of about 3 km, which takes 2 to 3 hours with stops. It links the town’s salt-mining landmarks, from a 14th-century shaft in the lower town to a wooden church on the hill. The loop is for the streets and parks only, because the mine itself can be entered only on a guided route.
The route, stop by stop Regis Shaft, plac Kościuszki 9.

Wieliczka Sights Above and Below Ground
Wieliczka’s sights split into two groups: the chambers and exhibits underground, and a handful of historic buildings and a painted square above. The surface landmarks are all within about a 15-minute walk of each other, so a full day covers both.
Underground: the museum and the chapel The Tourist Route passes the underground exhibition of the Kraków Saltworks Museum on Level III, 135 m below the surface. It shows the giant timber treadwheels that hoisted salt and rock to the surface, along with mining tools, crystal specimens from the Crystal Grottoes and old miners’ uniforms.

A Romantic Stay in Wieliczka
Romance in Wieliczka is quiet and compact. There are no lakes, river cruises or mountain viewpoints, and the stream that runs through town is small. What the town does offer is a salt-carved chapel deep underground, a four-star hotel next to the mine, a hilltop wooden church and an easy town walk. It suits a short overnight stay better than a long holiday.
The Chapel of St Kinga The most atmospheric spot is the Chapel of St Kinga, about 101 m underground on the Tourist Route.

Wieliczka as a Two Day Base
Wieliczka is a half-day to one-day destination. The salt mine, the surface shafts, the Graduation Tower, the market square and the wooden church on the hill add up to a single full day, and no wilderness or resort area sits behind them. A stay of two days works when you use the town as a quieter base and spend the second day on two nearby sites, Bochnia and Niepołomice.
Day 1: the mine and the old town Morning.
