Verona Museums, Churches and Gardens
Verona’s best indoor and garden attractions sit within a short walk of each other. This page covers the ones with fixed visiting rules, so you can sequence a day without arriving at a closed door.
Museo di Castelvecchio
Castelvecchio stands at Corso Castelvecchio 2 beside the Adige. Cangrande II built the fortress in 1354 to 1356, and the architect Carlo Scarpa reworked the interior between 1958 and 1975, so the rooms mix medieval walls with modern display design. The collection includes works by Pisanello, Bellini and Mantegna and the original statue of Cangrande I.
Opening is Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, with last entry at 17:15, and the museum is closed on Mondays. From 31 October 2026 ticket rates change for the centenary exhibition La Venere di Tiziano e il Rinascimento musicale, which shows Titian’s Venus from the Prado until 31 January 2027. Because of that, no fixed price is printed here; buy tickets at verona.coopculture.it and see museodicastelvecchio.comune.verona.it for current rates.
The Chiese Vive churches
Four churches share a pass: San Zeno, the Duomo, Sant’Anastasia and San Fermo.
- San Zeno holds a Mantegna altarpiece and a rose window by Brioloto.
- The Duomo has Titian’s Assumption.
- Sant’Anastasia holds Pisanello’s St George fresco.
- San Fermo is a two-level church with a ceiling shaped like a ship’s keel.
The four-church pass costs about 8 EUR, or about 7 reduced, with 90 days of validity, and it is free with the VeronaCard. These are working churches, so check opening times before you go.
Giardino Giusti
This Renaissance garden at Via Giardino Giusti 2 was laid out by Agostino Giusti in the 1500s. It has cypress terraces, a boxwood labyrinth and a belvedere with a grotesque stone mask. It is a garden, not a zoo,. It opens daily except 25 December, 09:00 to 19:00 in summer and 10:00 to 18:00 in winter. Adult tickets are about 12 EUR in recent listings, so check giardinogiusti.com for the current price. Restoration work is under way, and some areas may be affected.
Teatro Romano and Archaeological Museum
The Roman Theatre at Regaste Redentore 2 climbs the hillside across Ponte Pietra, with the museum housed in a former convent above it. It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, with last entry at 17:30, and closed on Mondays, 25 December and 1 January. In summer the stage is set up for the Estate Teatrale Veronese, including the Shakespeare Festival, and from 31 March the visitor routes change. Ticket price should be checked on visitverona.it .
Saving money
The VeronaCard is 33 EUR for 24 hours or 38 EUR for 48 hours and covers many civic museums, monuments and the Chiese Vive churches. Giardino Giusti is only discounted, not free, so work out your list before buying. Each site can be entered once.
