Family Days Out Around Verona
Family Days Out Around Verona
Verona works well for families because the centre is compact and the best child-friendly places are a short bus, car or train ride away. This page lists the options that have clear opening rules, with notes on what to check first.
Parco Natura Viva, Bussolengo
This is the main animal day out near the city: a safari drive and a walking zoo in one park, with a large animal collection. The 2026 season opened on 14 February for weekends and then daily from 28 February, with tickets valid until 6 January 2027, so it is not a summer-only visit. At the gate the Park plus Safari ticket is 30 EUR, and children aged 0 to 2 enter free. Pedestrian-only or safari-only tickets are listed at about 25 EUR. See prezzi.parconaturaviva.it for the current price table and check the opening days for your visit.
Parco Giardino Sigurta, Valeggio sul Mincio
Sigurta is a botanical park with lawns, a boxwood maze and an educational farm. The 2026 season ran from 7 March to 15 November, daily 09:00 to 19:00, with last entry at 18:00 and an earlier close in winter time. Adult entry is about 16 to 18 EUR, depending on the source, so check sigurta.it for your date. Dates for 2027 had not been published at the time of writing.
Gardaland and SEA LIFE
Gardaland at Castelnuovo del Garda is the big theme park in the area and runs on its own seasonal calendar; it is not open all year. The SEA LIFE Aquarium next to it is a separate ticket and is the nearest aquarium to Verona, since the city itself has none. Opening hours vary by season, so check both before you set off.
Funicular and the hilltop terrace
A short funicular ride up to Castel San Pietro suits younger children. It leaves from Via Fontanelle Santo Stefano 6 and runs daily 10:00 to 21:00 from April to 25 October, then 10:00 to 17:00 until March. It is closed on 25 December and 1 January. The terrace at the top is free. No child fare or age rule is published, so ask at the ticket window.
Walks that cost nothing
The Ponte Scaligero is a fortified bridge beside Castelvecchio and free to cross. From there, you can continue along the river on the Lungadige. Giardino Giusti, at Via Giardino Giusti 2, is a Renaissance garden with a boxwood labyrinth rather than a zoo; it is open daily except 25 December, and some areas may be affected by restoration.
Tips for families
- The Arena is open for daytime visits Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 19:00, with last entry at 18:30, and is closed on Mondays. It can close earlier on performance days.
- The 2027 Arena opera festival has a family tribune with a child rate for under 14s; the 2027 family sector release was still pending, so check arena.it.
- Lake Garda beaches are mostly pebbles and stones rather than sand, so pack water shoes.
- The VeronaCard (33 EUR for 24 hours, 38 EUR for 48 hours) includes city buses, which helps with tired legs.
- Watch for pickpockets on crowded buses and around Juliet’s courtyard.
