Turks and Caicos Walks and Short Trails
As of October 2026, the US lists the Turks and Caicos Islands at Level 2, “Exercise Increased Caution”, for crime, and the UK FCDO notes higher serious crime on Providenciales and Grand Turk. Walk in daylight, keep phones and valuables out of sight, and do not leave belongings on the beach. Check every bag before flying: any ammunition, even one stray bullet, carries a minimum 12-year sentence. Hurricane season runs to the end of November. See the UK FCDO safety advice .
Walking is a small part of a Turks and Caicos trip. Organised walking tours are few, Providenciales is spread out and car-dependent, and most of the best scenery is reached by boat or car. What exists is a handful of good self-guided walks, each short. Prices are in US dollars.
Cockburn Town, Grand Turk
The historic centre is the best town walk in the islands. Duke Street and Front Street run along about 1 mile of waterfront, lined with Bermudian-style buildings, villas, the post office and Guinep House, which holds the Turks and Caicos National Museum. Most restaurants open only on cruise days, so go on a day a ship is in port if you want lunch. Walking in from the Grand Turk Cruise Center is not practical, as it is about 3 miles in the sun with no sidewalks. Take a vehicle to the town and walk once you arrive. Livestock wander onto roads, so keep an eye out for animals.
Grace Bay Beach, Providenciales
Grace Bay is a little over 3 miles long, which makes it an easy long walk along the sand. Public access points are free, so you can start and end at different places. There are no lifeguards. Bring water and sun protection.
Little Water Cay boardwalks
Two loop boardwalks, a north trail and a south trail, wind through the habitat of about 3,000 rock iguanas. The north trail is the more strenuous of the two. The short tour costs $20 and the extended tour $25, and the island is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 15:30. Stay on the boardwalk, never touch or feed the iguanas, and carry out your rubbish, because there are no litter bins.
Cheshire Hall Plantation
Cheshire Hall, on the Leeward Highway in Providenciales, has signed self-guided trails around the ruins, plus a guided tour of about 30 minutes. Entry is $15, and children under three are free. Most of the ruins are in poor condition, and Hurricane Irma badly damaged the Great House in 2017. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
Middle Caicos paths
Above Mudjin Harbour a cliff-top path gives views of the open-faced cave and Dragon Cay. The Crossing Place Trail is a historic path that crosses hills, beaches and cliffs on the island. Wear sturdy shoes, since rock near the shore is sharp, and do not try to climb the rock at Dragon Cay. Reaching Middle Caicos takes a ferry to North Caicos ($40 one way) and a rental car over the causeway.
Where to find more
Short routes combine well with a guided activity. The Conch Bar Caves tour lasts 20 to 30 minutes, costs $30 and is guided only. For guided outings of every kind, browse GetYourGuide .
