Turks and Caicos Day Trips by Ferry and Air
As of October 2026, the US State Department rates the islands Level 2, “Exercise Increased Caution”, for crime, and the UK FCDO reports higher serious crime on Providenciales and Grand Turk than elsewhere. Keep valuables out of sight. Check every bag before flying: any ammunition, even one stray bullet, carries a minimum 12-year sentence. Hurricane season runs to the end of November. Current wording is on the UK FCDO safety page .
Most visitors stay on Providenciales and head out for the day. Each trip below needs a ferry or a flight booked ahead, and prices are in US dollars. Seasonal timetables change without notice, so check with the operator.
North and Middle Caicos by ferry
Caribbean Cruisin’ and MV My Girl run from Heaving Down Rock Marina, also called Walkin Marina, on Providenciales to Bellefield Landing on North Caicos. The crossing takes 25 to 30 minutes. The fare is $40 one way or $70 return. The timetable changes by season, and the Caribbean Cruisin’ schedule has a reduced daily service from 1 September to 30 November, so confirm the last boat back before you plan the day. Caribbean Cruisin’ takes Visa and Mastercard only, not Amex.
Middle Caicos has no ferry and no working airport. It is reached by a causeway from North Caicos, so book a rental car in advance. From Bellefield a driving day can take in Wade’s Green Plantation near Kew on North Caicos, then Mudjin Harbour and Conch Bar Caves on Middle Caicos. Conch Bar Caves are guided only, at $30 per person, so call +1 649-941-5710 first.
At Mudjin Harbour the sandbar to Dragon Cay is exposed under most tide conditions, but swimming or snorkelling there in swell is dangerous. Strong currents, sharp rock, sea urchins and hidden sinkholes are the risks, and there are no lifeguards. Enjoy the cliff-top overlook and the open-faced cave instead.
Grand Turk by air
There is no ferry between Providenciales and Grand Turk. Caicos Express Airways and interCaribbean fly it in about 30 minutes each way, roughly $150 per person return for a day trip. Book a few days ahead. A rental car costs about $90 a day, and fuel is about $7.20 a gallon. Collect the car at the airport, not at the Cruise Center. When no cruise ship is in port, many places are closed, so check ahead.
Cockburn Town, the National Museum and the lighthouse grounds are the usual stops. Livestock wander onto roads, especially on Grand Turk, so drive slowly.
Little Water Cay
Boats and kayaks leave from the Leeward area of Providenciales. Allow about 2 to 3 hours for the round trip, including the boardwalk loop. Tickets are $20 for the short tour and $25 for the extended tour.
Gibbs Cay from Grand Turk
Gibbs Cay is about 1 mile off the east coast of Grand Turk. Tours run to the stingrays, which you may watch but not touch, feed or lift.
Salt Cay
Salt Cay is not a day trip from Grand Turk. The community ferry leaves Salt Cay at about 7:30 AM and Grand Turk at about 2:00 PM, only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Fly with Caicos Express or stay overnight.
