Romantic Antigua: Dinners, Sails and Beaches
Antigua gives couples long evenings on the water, a few memorable restaurants and some well-run resorts. The best time is high season, from mid-December to mid-April. Resort prices are usually quoted in US dollars, and the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$) is pegged at US$1 to EC$2.70.
Dinner at Sheer Rocks
Sheer Rocks is a cliff-top, Mediterranean-style restaurant at Cocobay Resort in the Valley Church area. It is open to outside guests, not only resort residents, and tables have been bookable through OpenTable. Ask about opening dates for the season when you reserve.
Lunch at Catherine’s Cafe
Catherine’s Cafe sits on Pigeon Point Beach at English Harbour and serves beachfront, French-style dining. OpenTable bookings were available in spring 2026. Listed hours are daily from 10:30am to 6pm, so confirm for the day you plan to go. The cafe reopened for the season in October 2025.
Resorts for a special stay
Several resorts draw couples, and each has its own closing dates:
- Carlisle Bay on the south-west coast reopened on 16 October 2025 after the first phase of a renovation that runs to November 2027, so some dining venues can be closed during works. Its seasonal closure in 2026 runs from 15 August to 15 October.
- Curtain Bluff is an all-inclusive resort on the south coast that closes over the summer and reopens in early November.
- Hermitage Bay reopened on 12 October 2025 after a large renovation.
- Jumby Bay Island is a private island resort off the north-east coast.
Many Antigua resorts close from mid-August to mid-October or later because of hurricane season, which runs to 30 November. Confirm the opening dates for your own stay before you book flights.
Sunset sail
Sunset catamaran sails leave from Falmouth, English Harbour and Jolly Harbour. Operators and prices vary, so compare a few departures and ask what drinks and food are included.
Rendezvous Bay
Rendezvous Bay is an undeveloped beach on the south coast with no road, shops, drinking water or reliable phone signal. You reach it by a hard 5-hour hike with a Wallings ranger (US$50 per adult, 14 miles) or by boat. Bring everything you need, including water.
Beach notes for two
All Antigua beaches are public, and the law requires public access to each, but resort loungers and facilities are not included. The Caribbean-side beaches on the west and south-west are calmer than the Atlantic side. No beach is guaranteed to have lifeguards, and drownings have been reported even at calm bays, so swim within your depth. Avoid isolated beaches after dark and use licensed taxis, and keep valuables in the hotel safe.
