Three Days in St Helier and Jersey
Jersey is small enough that St Helier works as a fixed base for several days, with LibertyBus carrying you out to each area each morning. Most routes start at Liberation Station on the Esplanade, and libertybus.je has the current fares and times. Prices are in Jersey pounds, equal to sterling. The tide and the season decide a lot here, so check tide times for Elizabeth Castle and the Corbiere causeway, and check opening dates for the castles and boat trips.
A three-day plan
Day 1, town and Elizabeth Castle. Start with the Royal Square and the Central Market, then take the amphibious ferry from Westpark Slip to Elizabeth Castle in the afternoon, which runs at any tide. The castle is open from 18 March to 1 November in 2026, and tickets with the return ferry cost £24.50 for adults. Have dinner at the harbour or around Havre des Pas. See the Jersey Heritage site for hours and tickets.
Day 2, Occupation history and the west coast. In the morning, visit the Jersey War Tunnels in St Lawrence, a solemn exhibition in a complex dug by slave and forced labourers, reached on LibertyBus route 8 or 28. Adults pay £21.00, and the Jersey War Tunnels site has opening dates. In the afternoon, head to St Ouen’s Bay for surfing or a beach walk, and finish at La Corbiere Lighthouse at sunset. Check the siren and the tide before crossing the causeway.
Day 3, Gorey and the reef. Spend the morning at Mont Orgueil Castle and Gorey Pier, then take the Jersey Seafaris trip to Les Ecrehous from St Catherine Breakwater. Check the current price and season at Jersey Seafaris . Book a table for the evening at Bohemia, a Michelin-starred restaurant as of the 2025 guide, at The Club Hotel and Spa on Green Street.
A five-day coastal walk
The island’s coast path is about 48 miles in total and splits into five stages, and you can return to St Helier by LibertyBus each evening. Distances are approximate.
- St Helier to St Aubin and La Corbiere, about 10 miles, along St Aubin’s Bay and the Railway Walk.
- La Corbiere to Greve de Lecq, about 12 miles, along St Ouen’s Bay and north towards Plemont.
- Greve de Lecq to Bonne Nuit Bay, about 9 miles, over the highest cliff paths.
- Bonne Nuit Bay to Rozel and Gorey, about 10 miles, passing Bouley Bay and St Catherine Breakwater.
- Gorey to St Helier, about 7 miles, along the flat south-east coast and Havre des Pas.
The cliff sections have steep granite steps, so wear sturdy footwear. The National Trust for Jersey covers parts of the north coast path.
Adding Sark
Manche Iles Express sails to Sark from April to September, with crossings resuming on 3 April 2027. Sark has no cars, and you get around on foot, by bicycle or by horse-drawn carriage. No Jersey to Guernsey passenger ferry is running in 2026, so build any island-hopping trip around Sark and check each operator before you commit. Take your passport for France, Guernsey or Sark.
