Romantic Weekend in St Helier
St Helier suits a short romantic break because the dining, the seafront hotels and some unusual places to stay are all close together. Prices are in Jersey pounds, equal to sterling. Two things need planning ahead: restaurant tables at weekends, and the tide for anything offshore.
Dinner at Bohemia
Bohemia is the restaurant at The Club Hotel and Spa on Green Street and has been Michelin-starred as of the 2025 guide, after 21 consecutive years with a star. Tom Earnshaw is head chef. The cooking is modern British, built around Jersey scallops, crab and local produce, with tasting menus, a pescatarian menu and an intimate bar lounge. Book weeks ahead for a weekend table. See Bohemia for menus.
Afternoon tea and spa at the Grand Jersey
The Grand Jersey Hotel and Spa stands on the Esplanade, a five-star Victorian seafront hotel with views over St Aubin’s Bay to Elizabeth Castle. It is known for afternoon tea on the Terrace above the sea, a Champagne bar and couples’ treatments at the Elemis Spa. To compare rooms across town, search Booking.com stays in St Helier .
Stay in a fort or a tower
Jersey Heritage lets two coastal buildings as holiday homes, and you can book them through Jersey Heritage holiday lets . Seymour Tower is an 18th-century granite tower about 2 miles offshore on the Violet Bank reef, surrounded by sea at high tide. It sleeps up to 7 people and can be booked only when the tide and weather allow, with a guide leading the crossing. La Crete Fort is a secluded fort on the north coast for up to 5 guests, and the access is not tidal, so it is the easier choice. Never walk out to Seymour Tower on your own.
Sunset and the seafront
St Aubin’s Harbour is a village of 17th-century merchants’ houses, about a 10-minute taxi ride from St Helier or a 35-minute ride on the promenade cycle route, and LibertyBus routes 12, 12A, 14 and 15 also stop there. Walk the harbour at dusk before dinner. St Brelade’s Bay has waterfront dining facing the sunset.
For sunset itself, La Corbiere Lighthouse on the south-western tip is the place to be. Routes 12A and 22 run there, and the lighthouse stands on a tidal rock. A causeway about 300 m long leads to it at low water, with a siren that warns before the sea covers it. If the siren sounds, walk back to the shore at once. You can also watch from the shore without crossing. Check tide times at ports.je before you plan an evening there, and bus times at libertybus.je .
