Romantic Serbia: Wine Cellars and Sunsets
Serbia has few packaged romantic experiences, so the best ones are simple: a wine cellar, a river at sunset, a table on a quay, a ride above the trees. Prices here are in dinars (RSD), at about 117 RSD to the euro. The US rates Serbia Level 2 for crime, and demonstrations in Belgrade can turn violent at short notice, so avoid them and check local news before you plan an evening out.
Sunset at Kalemegdan
The classic Belgrade ritual is to walk to the Victor monument (Pobednik) on the ramparts of Kalemegdan fortress and watch the sun go down over the point where the Sava meets the Danube. The park is open around the clock and entry is free. Arrive early to find a place on the wall.
A fish dinner in Zemun
Zemun, on the Danube side of the city, has a cobbled quay called Kej Oslobođenja lined with waterside restaurants. Riverside tables serve fish soup (riblja čorba) and grilled perch, carp or catfish with local white wine. Šaran and Reka are two names that come up for this kind of dinner. Book a table for a weekend, and carry dinars for any small kiosk or bakery along the way, since the euro is not accepted. For a different view of the confluence, look at evening cruises from Belgrade , which usually last about 90 minutes; check the season before you book.
Bermet and cellars at Sremski Karlovci
Sremski Karlovci is a small baroque town on the Danube, about an hour or more from Belgrade, just beyond Novi Sad. Its speciality is Bermet, an herb-infused dessert wine. A travel guide names the Bajilo and Kiš cellars as friendly to visitors, but opening hours were not confirmed, so ring ahead. Novi Sad operators sell a Tuesday wine tour from Fruška Gora for about 7,600 RSD per person in 2026 quotes; see Novi Sad tourism . Train fares from Belgrade to Petrovaradin start at 549 RSD one way, and Srbijavoz has the timetable. A night in Sremski Karlovci or Novi Sad turns the tasting into a weekend, and you can compare stays .
A mountain stay near Mokra Gora
For a quieter break, stay in the timber village of Drvengrad, where the Mećavnik resort is listed on Booking. By day the Šargan Eight heritage train winds through 22 tunnels and over 5 bridges; adults pay 1,500 RSD, and the season runs to about 30 October. Ask the resort about evening meals, and check train times at the Zlatibor tourist site .
Above Zlatibor
The Gold Gondola rises 9 km to Tornik at 1,496 m in about 25 minutes, with one intermediate station at Ribničko lake. A return ticket is 2,000 RSD per adult. In October and November the last ride up is at 15:00, so plan the ride for early in the day. Cabins stop in strong wind, so look at goldgondola.rs first.
