Romantic Petra: Night, Roof Garden, Cave Bar
Travel advisory, 31 October 2026. The wider 2026 regional conflict involving Iran affects Jordan. At the time of writing the US State Department rates the whole country Level 3, Reconsider Travel, and Level 4, Do Not Travel, for the Syria and Iraq borders and a few named areas. It has also named Ma’an city and parts of Ma’an Governorate separately. The UK FCDO advises against travel only within 3 km of the Syrian border and lists no warning for Petra or Wadi Rum. Petra and Wadi Musa are open and operating, though flights can be disrupted and conditions can change at short notice. Read the US State Department advisory and the UK FCDO advice before you book and again before you fly. The rest of this page is written for a normal visit.
Petra by Night
The most romantic hour near Petra is Petra by Night, when candles light the Siq and a show plays at the Treasury. It runs Sunday to Thursday from 8:30 to 10:30 PM and costs 30 JD, with children under 10 free. The Jordan Pass and the daytime ticket do not cover it, but you need a valid daytime Petra ticket or Pass to buy one. Tickets are sold in person on the day at the Petra by Night office at the Visitor Center, and bad weather cancels the evening, so confirm that day. Details are on petrabynight.jo .
A sundowner in a tomb
The Cave Bar at the Petra Guest House Hotel, beside the Petra gate, is a licensed bar inside an original Nabataean tomb. It is open daily from 2:00 PM to midnight, so an early drink works as well as a late one. See the hotel site .
Dinner above the hills
The Al Ghadeer Roof Garden at the Mövenpick Resort Petra sits on the fourth floor with sunset views over the Petra hills. It is open daily from 4 PM to midnight from May to October only, serves a barbecue-focused menu, and needs a reservation. The Mövenpick page has the details.
Where to stay
The Petra Bubble Luxotel stands on Little Petra Main Street in Wadi Musa and advertises bubble suites with private hot tubs. The Seven Wonders Bedouin Camp is another option near Little Petra. Ask each for current rates before you book.
A late-afternoon walk
For two people who like to walk, the High Place of Sacrifice or the Al-Khubtha viewpoint makes a good late-afternoon outing. Plan it so that you are back at the gate before closing, which falls between 4 and 6 PM depending on the season. Petra by Night is the evening option.
Tips for couples
Daytime entry is 50 JD for 1 day, 55 JD for 2 days or 60 JD for 3 days for visitors who sleep at least one night in Jordan. Petra by Night needs a valid daytime ticket, so a 2-day ticket covers both a day in the park and an evening show. Wadi Musa is the right base, as Ma’an city is not an overnight choice.
