Jungle Lodge Stays near Manaus
Jungle lodge stays near Manaus
A multi-day trip from Manaus usually means a jungle lodge on a river, with transfers, meals and guided outings bundled into a package. Two lodges are well known, and a third option is a long riverboat voyage from the city port.
Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge
This lodge is on the Rio Negro about 180 km from Manaus and has 22 rooms. Packages run from 3 to 6 days and include transfers. An older price example is about R$2,700 to R$2,970 per person for 3 days, so treat it as a starting point and check the current rate. Blackwater areas tend to have fewer biting insects, but that is only a comfort, so you still need repellent and a health plan. Read about the area in this CNN Brasil feature on Anavilhanas .
Juma Amazon Lodge
Juma Amazon Lodge is at Autazes, roughly 100 km from Manaus, on the Juma River. It has 20 bungalows and a pool filled with river water. It is on the Juma and not on the Rio Negro, so do not expect the blackwater setting. Ask the lodge for current prices and for how the transfer from Manaus is made.
Choosing a licensed operator
Book through a licensed operator and go out only with a licensed guide. Do not walk alone in the forest, swim in the river channels or handle animals. Night caiman spotting is done from a boat, as observation only. Brazilian authorities have acted against operators who sell photos with held animals, so decline any such offer.
Riverboat voyages from the Porto Flutuante
Riverboats called gaiolas leave the Porto Flutuante, the floating port in the city centre, for Santarém and Belém. These are voyages of days rather than hours, so ask at the port about schedules, cabins and hammock space. Manaus has no practical road link to the rest of Brazil, because the BR-319 to Porto Velho is paved only at its two ends and the middle is a mud road. Get there by air or river.
River level and season
Dry season runs roughly from August to November, when channels are shallow and transfers take longer. High water is the opposite. The 2024 record low was 12.11 m at Porto de Manaus on 9 October, and on 27 October 2026 the river stood at 16.59 m. Check the Porto de Manaus level before you book a lodge.
Health before a lodge stay
The CDC recommends yellow fever vaccination for travellers aged nine months and over going to Amazonas, given at least 10 days before departure, and Brazil does not require it for entry. All of Amazonas is a malaria area, so see a doctor about a month ahead about prophylaxis. See the CDC Brazil page .
