Romantic Getaway in Midoun, Djerba
Djerba suits a quiet couples’ break built around spa time, slow evenings and a few easy outings. Midoun is on the east side of the island, in southeast Tunisia, and the island’s main romantic options are a short taxi ride away. Prices here are in Tunisian dinars (TND), and rates for rooms and spa treatments change by season, so ask each property for current figures.
Thalassotherapy stays
Thalassotherapy, or seawater spa treatment, is the island’s signature romantic indulgence. Two resorts to know are the Hasdrubal Prestige Thalassa and Spa and the Radisson Blu Palace Resort and Thalasso. Both lie in the Zone Touristique near Mezraia and Sidi Mahrez, not in Midoun town, so allow a short drive from the centre. Treatment menus and prices vary, so look at each resort’s own site: Hasdrubal and Radisson Blu .
A night in Erriadh
For a smaller base, look at Dar Bibine and Dar Dhiafa in Erriadh, a village roughly 15 km west of Midoun. The village lanes carry the Djerbahood murals, about 250 works by more than 150 artists from around 30 countries, so an early-evening walk is free and photogenic. Some murals have weathered with time. Visit the owners’ sites at Dar Bibine and Dar Dhiafa for rooms and rates.
Sunset dinner at the port
Restaurant Haroun sits at the fishing port in Houmt Souk, about 16 km from Midoun. The dining area is a replica of a boat deck on the water’s edge rather than a moored vessel. Reviews on food and price are mixed, so book a table for sunset and read recent comments before you commit.
Evenings at Djerba Explore
The heritage village at Djerba Explore, Ras Taguermess, stays open from 08:00 to 22:00, which allows a gentle evening stroll after the day-time museum closes at 17:00. The Lalla Hadria museum is worth an unhurried hour for ceramics, jewellery, costume and carpets. Tickets are about 32 to 37 TND per adult, and the park shares one ticket across all its areas, so spend your time in the museum and the village.
Sunset by the lagoon and the beaches
The east and north-east shores of the island give open sunset views. Walk the sand rather than hiring a camel, horse or carriage, as this guide does not recommend animal rides. Swim only where you see a flag system or lifeguard cover, and ask locally when you find no flags, lifeguards or signs. Do not assume any beach has calm water.
A quiet day for two
- Morning: breakfast at your hotel, then the spa.
- Afternoon: the Lalla Hadria museum at Djerba Explore, or a slow drive along the coast.
- Evening: dinner at the port or in Erriadh.
