Romantic Evenings in Manchester
Manchester offers couples fine dining, rooftop views and evening culture. Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP), and the best tables book weeks ahead.
Fine dining
Two Manchester restaurants hold a Michelin star: mana in Ancoats and Skof in the NOMA district. Menus are tasting formats, and booking opens well in advance. Adam Reid at The French, inside the Midland Hotel at 16 Peter Street, is listed in the Michelin Guide as a recommended restaurant. It opens Wednesday to Saturday evenings only. It is one restaurant, not two.
Canal basin dinner
Albert’s Shed at 20 Castle Street in Castlefield sits by the canal basin, with the brick viaducts lit up after dark. It is open for lunch and dinner every day, so a walk along the water before dinner fits easily.
Rooftop views and spa
King Street Townhouse at 10 Booth Street has a rooftop infinity spa pool with views towards the Town Hall tower. Booking sites describe the pool as adult only, and spa access may carry an extra charge. Cloud 23 is the cocktail bar on the 23rd floor of the Beetham Tower, in the hotel now called The Manchester Deansgate Hotel. Book a window table for sunset.
A grand setting
Refuge by Volta sits in the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel on Oxford Street, in the former Refuge Assurance building from 1895, which is Grade II* listed. The Winter Garden is known for afternoon tea and cocktails.
An evening show
Aviva Studios on Water Street hosts large shows, gigs and free exhibitions, and its programme runs well into 2027. The Bridgewater Hall on Lower Mosley Street is another option for a concert, so look at its programme for your dates.
Tips
- Check the dress code and booking rules when you reserve, as hotel bars often have their own.
- A stroll through the Northern Quarter after dinner is easy on foot, and most of the venues above are within a short taxi or tram ride of each other.
- Weekend tables at the starred restaurants and the rooftop bars fill first, so midweek is the easier time to book.
- Check the price of any tasting menu on the restaurant’s own page when you reserve, as menus change with the season.
- Quiet places of remembrance such as the Glade of Light belong on a sightseeing day, not a date night.
