Day Trips from Oxford
Day trips from Oxford
Most day trips from Oxford work by public transport, and the centre is a poor place to park. Blenheim, the Cotswolds and Bicester Village are all reachable without a car.
Blenheim Palace
Stagecoach buses S3 and S7 run from Oxford Railway Station (stop R5) and Magdalen Street (stop C4). Together they run about four times an hour, seven days a week, and the ride takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes. The nearest railway station is Hanborough.
Tickets are priced as donations and convert to a 12-month pass at no extra cost.
| Ticket (online price) | Adult | Child | Family |
|---|---|---|---|
| Palace, Park and Gardens (12-month pass) | £41 | £24 | £110 |
| Park and Gardens day ticket | £31 | £15 | £85 |
On-site prices run a few pounds higher. The Palace, Park and Gardens ticket with Adventure Play is £51 for an adult. A discount code, GREEN20, takes 20 percent off the annual pass, the Palace and Play pass and Palace, Park and Gardens day tickets when you arrive by bus, train, bike or electric car. Bring proof of travel. It excludes Park and Gardens-only tickets and the Privilege Pass, and it does not apply from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, when Park and Gardens day tickets are not sold either. Terms are on the Blenheim green travel page .
The Cotswolds
By train, Moreton-in-Marsh is about 35 minutes from Oxford on the GWR line, and Charlbury is on the same line. From Moreton, Pulhams route 801 runs to Bourton-on-the-Water. By bus, the Pulhams X52 links Oxford (Gloucester Green), Witney, Burford, Northleach and Cheltenham up to every 2 hours Monday to Saturday, with a £3 single fare cap. See the Pulhams X52 page for times.
Cotswold Wildlife Park
Tickets at the gate are £19.50 adult and £14.00 child (ages 3 to 16), and online tickets are £17.50 and £12.50. Seniors pay the child price. The park is at Bradwell Grove near Burford, so from Burford it is realistically a car or taxi ride.
Bicester Village
Chiltern Railways trains run from Oxford station or Oxford Parkway, and journey time is about 15 minutes from Oxford station. Check a current timetable before you plan the return.
Stratford-upon-Avon
Stratford is about 45 miles from Oxford. Allow a long day: the journey takes about 1 hour 15 minutes or more by train with a change.
London
The Oxford Tube runs around the clock from Gloucester Green to Shepherd’s Bush, Notting Hill Gate, Marble Arch and Victoria. Adult fares start at about £15 to £16.50, so check the operator for the current return price.
