Planning 2 to 4 Days in Sinaia
Two to four days is enough to cover Sinaia and its neighbours without rushing. The town works well as a base because it has its own castles and cable car and sits on the railway between Bucharest and Brașov. Prices below are in Romanian lei.
Getting there
Trains from Bucharest Gara de Nord reach Sinaia in about 1 hour 30 minutes. Check timetables and operators on cfrcalatori.ro or infofer.ro, because frequency changes with the season. The train avoids the weekend jams on the DN1 road. Romania is at Level 1, exercise normal precautions, in the US State Department’s rating.
Day 1: the royal estate and the town
Start early on Aleea Peleșului, the pedestrian path up to the royal estate. Peleș Castle (adult 100 lei) and Pelișor (adult 30 lei) are both open Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesday, so plan the days of your stay around that. Book timed slots at bilete.peles.ro. In the afternoon, walk down through Dimitrie Ghica Park to the Casino and join a guided tour, then visit Sinaia Monastery, founded in 1695.
Day 2: the Bucegi plateau
Take the Telecabina Sinaia from the centre to Cota 1400 and the Gondola Carp up to Cota 2000. Lifts run in the daytime and stop in wind, fog or frost, so keep this day flexible. The gondola section from Cota 1000 to Cota 1400 has been closed since September 2026, which means queues at the telecabina. From the top you can hike across the plateau to Babele and the Sphinx. Carry waterproofs and sturdy boots, because the weather changes fast above Cota 1400, and check the last lift down before you go.
Day 3: Bușteni and Brașov
Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni is about 10 km north. Brașov and its Old Town are about 45 km north, with the Black Church and Council Square. Bran Castle and Râșnov Fortress are reached by way of Brașov, so they suit a separate long day.
Day 4: music and a slow morning
George Enescu’s Villa Luminiș, at 2 Yehudi Menuhin Street in Cumpătu, is open Wednesday to Sunday, about 09:00 to 16:00. Hotel spas, including the spa at Hotel Carpathia, make a restful end to a trip.
Winter stays
The ski area on Cota 1400 and Cota 2000 normally opens once there is snow, in past years between late November and mid-January. Opening dates change every year. With the lower gondola shut, skiers may depend on the telecabina and the Carp lift.
Bear safety
Brown bears visit the edges of Sinaia and the Cota 1400 road. Feeding them is illegal, with fines of 10,000 to 30,000 lei. Phone 112 for a bear in a settlement and watch for RO-ALERT warnings on your phone. Do not walk in forest alone at dawn, dusk or night.
