Family Days in Sinaia
Sinaia is a better fit for families who like castles, fresh air and short outings than for those wanting theme parks. The town has no zoo, so days here are built from a handful of simple things. Prices are in Romanian lei.
Peleș Castle for children
Children up to 7 are free at both Peleș and Pelișor, and under-18s are free during school holidays. Older children pay the pupil rate of 25 lei at Peleș and 7.50 lei at Pelișor. The Arms Room, with more than 4,000 historical weapons, is the part of the tour most likely to interest children. The tour is guided or audio-guided on timed slots, so check the age rules when you book at bilete.peles.ro. Strollers and large bags go to the cloakroom, so a carrier is easier for toddlers. Both castles are closed on Monday and Tuesday and for a conservation closure each year, which in 2026 runs from 2 November to 1 December for Peleș and from 28 September to 3 November for Pelișor.
Pelișor and the Golden Chamber
Pelișor is the smaller of the two castles. It was built in 1899 to 1902 for Crown Prince Ferdinand and Queen Marie, and the gilded sycamore Golden Chamber is the room to point out. An adult ticket is 30 lei.
Aleea Peleșului
The cobbled pedestrian path from the town up to the castles is the easiest family stroll in Sinaia. It is closed to traffic and passes craft stalls, so children can walk it freely while you keep an eye on small ones near the forest edge.
Dimitrie Ghica Park
The central park, laid out in 1881, is free to enter and shaded by century-old chestnut trees. The Casino stands at one end. A seasonal ice rink is sometimes set up in winter if the weather allows, but it is not guaranteed, so ask at your hotel.
Cable car ride to Cota 1400
The Telecabina Sinaia, from the town centre to Cota 1400, suits families. It runs daily in the daytime, starting later on Tuesday, and stops in poor weather. Capacity is low because the newer gondola section from Cota 1000 to Cota 1400 is closed to the public, so expect long queues at weekends and go early.
A longer outing
Râșnov, near Brașov, has the Dino Parc as well as a fortress. Check opening hours and prices before you set out, and allow a full day for the trip.
Keeping children safe around wildlife
Bears live in the forests around Sinaia and sometimes come to the edges of town and the Cota 1400 road. Never let a child feed or approach one, because feeding bears is illegal and fined at 10,000 to 30,000 lei. Keep food and rubbish out of reach, keep children close on forest paths and finish any walk well before dusk.
