Southern Iceland Tours and Attractions
Southern Iceland has a handful of ticketed experiences with published prices: boat rides on a glacier lagoon, an ice cave tour, a snorkel between tectonic plates, an open-air museum and a live lava show. Prices are in Icelandic króna (ISK) and come from the operators’ own pages unless marked “about”.
Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon boats
Jökulsárlón boat tours offer two ways onto the lagoon among the floating icebergs.
- Amphibian boat: about 30 to 40 minutes, May to November. Adults (13 and over) pay 7,100 ISK, children 6 to 12 pay 3,500 ISK, and ages 0 to 5 go free.
- Zodiac: about 1 hour 15 minutes, May to October. Adults (13 and over) pay 16,600 ISK and children 10 to 12 pay 8,300 ISK. The minimum height is 130 cm.
Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach lie in the municipality of Hornafjörður, which has counted as part of the Southern Region since 2020. Parking at the lagoon is about 1,000 ISK.
Katla ice cave tour from Vík
Katla Track departs from its base at Austurvegur 16, Vík. The Katla Fast Track takes 2.5 to 3 hours and starts at 29,900 ISK per person. A private tour starts at 197,500 ISK. The ice cave is in Kötlujökull, an outlet of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, and the cave moves each year.
Silfra snorkelling at Þingvellir
DIVE.IS runs Silfra tours from 19,990 ISK. The fee for entering Þingvellir National Park, 1,500 ISK per snorkeller, is charged on top, and parking at P5 is paid separately unless the operator tells you otherwise.
Skógar Museum
The Skógar Museum combines an open-air collection of turf houses with a folk museum. Admission is 3,000 ISK for adults, 2,000 ISK for students and seniors, 1,600 ISK for ages 12 to 17, and 6,750 ISK for a family ticket (two adults plus children up to 17). Children under 12 enter free with an adult.
Icelandic Lava Show in Vík
The Icelandic Lava Show at Víkurbraut 5 is a live lava show, and a second one operates in Reykjavík. The venue asks guests to arrive 20 minutes early. Babies aged 0 to 1 are free on a lap, and the show can overwhelm children aged 0 to 4. Check the site for current ticket prices.
Safety notes
Take the same care you would at any guided tour: follow the guide, wear the equipment provided, and check safetravel.is for alerts before you go. Reynisfjara, the black sand beach near Vík, has deadly sneaker waves, so watch the warning lights and keep well back from the water.
