Island Hopping and Overnights From Split
Island hopping and overnight trips from Split
Split has no single standard multi-day tour. What it has is a ferry hub, so most multi-day trips are self-built: a few nights on the islands or a loop through central Dalmatia. Plan these yourself and book rooms and sailings separately.
Ferries and catamarans are seasonal. Most fast boats run from about April to October, and many lines have already finished for the year by the end of October, so check the operator before you commit. Fares below are approximate and come from published 2026 fare tables.
Island hopping: Hvar, Korčula and Dubrovnik
The classic route links Split, Hvar Town, Korčula Town and, if you have time, Dubrovnik. Catamarans carry foot passengers only, not cars, and you should book ahead in July and August.
- Split to Hvar Town takes about 1 hour and costs about €10 to €25 depending on the operator.
- Hvar to Korčula costs about €11 to €25.
- Korčula to Dubrovnik takes about 1 hour 40 minutes and costs about €25.
Per-leg fares run from about €10 to €30 overall. Operators include Krilo and Jadrolinija, and the Jadrolinija Split to Hvar page lists the Split to Hvar timetable. Wind can stop sailings, so leave a spare day before a flight or ferry connection.
Vis and Biševo in two to three days
Vis was a military base closed to foreigners until 1989, and Komiža on the west side is the usual base for the Blue Cave on Biševo.
- The Split to Vis ferry takes about 2 to 2.3 hours and costs about €7.50 off-peak to about €9.10 in summer.
- Catamarans take about 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Kapetan Luka costs about €7 to €10, and the Jadrolinija catamaran, running from mid-June to mid-September, costs about €28 on one fare table.
- Tito’s Cave on Mount Hum is a hike of about 1.5 to 2 hours from Komiža.
- The Yugoslav-era submarine tunnel is reported at Rukavac bay.
- The Blue Cave fee is separate: about €18 to €24, paid in cash on Biševo, on top of the boat. Only the boat is booked in advance. There is no swimming inside, the cave closes in swell, and the best light is late morning to early afternoon. The season runs from roughly early April to early November.
A central Dalmatia loop
For a land-based trip, link Trogir, Šibenik, Krka and Zadar. Šibenik’s cathedral of St James is a UNESCO site. At Krka, swimming at Skradinski Buk is banned, and the park boat and shuttle run only from 1 April to 31 October. Entry is €40 for adults from June to September, €20 in April, May and October, and €7 from November to March. Travel times between towns are approximate, so check them before you book beds.
Booking tips
- Reserve a room first, then fit the sailing around it.
- Carry cash for the Blue Cave fee.
- Check the wind forecast the night before every sailing.
