Get the geography right before you book anything

  4. Drive the Coral Coast. The Sigatoka Sand Dunes cost about FJD10 to enter, and the Queens Road between Nadi and Suva runs past Fiji’s original resort strip and Natadola Beach.

  1. Basing your whole trip in Suva. It is the country’s capital, not its beach coast, and building a first Fiji itinerary around it is a planning mistake, not a hot take.
  2. Cramming both the Mamanucas and the Yasawas into one short trip. The Yasawa Flyer run alone eats 2 to 8 hours each way, so treat that combination as a 10-plus day plan, not a week.
  3. Cloud 9’s floating pontoon if money is tight. It is a genuinely fun single-attraction day at roughly FJD229, but it is not a substitute for an actual island stay, and it is the first thing to cut on a budget trip.

Is Suva worth visiting on a Fiji trip?

It is not, however, where a first beach-focused trip should be based, and its rainfall runs close to double Nadi’s, so pack for grey skies if you add the day.
