Fiji 5 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Five days in Fiji stretches the 4 day plan’s single Mamanuca night into two, which is the real difference between sampling an island and actually resting on one. It nests inside the 6 day version once you are ready to trade a Mamanuca night for the remoter Yasawas.
Book these before you go: a Mamanuca resort room for two nights, which is the first thing to sell out in the dry season, the Sabeto hot springs and mud pool , the Coral Coast kava and Natadola combo tour , and the Mamanuca Islands Explorer day cruise if you want a second island’s worth of reef on the way out.
Day 1: Nadi and the Sabeto mud pools
Land at Nadi International Airport (NAN), not Suva’s Nausori. Taxi to Nadi town, roughly FJD15-20; to Port Denarau, FJD30-45 or a shuttle around FJD13 per person. Spend the afternoon at the Sabeto hot springs and mud pool (FJD10 to look, FJD20 for the mud bath and springs, cash-only in practice) and the Garden of the Sleeping Giant (FJD20 adult, 9am to 5pm). A Denarau hotel works fine for the night. Dinner: roti and curry, FJD7-15.
Day 2: A Mamanuca day cruise
Ride South Sea Cruises’ Mamanuca Islands Explorer, roughly 3 hours from Port Denarau, FJD159 (about USD72), hotel transfers included. Day 3: The Coral Coast on the Queens Road
Drive the Queens Road toward the Coral Coast, stopping at the Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park (FJD10 adult, guided walks FJD50-100, open 8am to 4:30pm) and the Coral Coast kava ceremony and Natadola Beach combo tour. Natadola is the one stretch of Coral Coast lagoon with genuinely deep, swimmable sand rather than a shallow tidal reef.
Day 4: Transfer out to the Mamanucas
Take a resort transfer boat or the Yasawa Flyer from Port Denarau, a 15 to 45 minute run depending on the resort. Check rates on Booking.com and book the resort’s own transfer as part of the room where offered. Boat and seaplane transfers run on fixed daytime schedules tied to the Flyer timetable, not on demand, so confirm your pickup time before leaving Nadi.
Day 5: A full free day in the Mamanucas
Two nights, not one, is what actually lets an island stay slow down: a full free day for the reef right off the resort beach, plus an optional add-on like Cloud 9’s floating pontoon (roughly FJD229, a premium single-attraction day, not the main event) if the budget allows it. Return to Denarau on the boat’s return schedule ahead of your flight home.
Getting around and money
Fiji drives on the left. The currency is the Fijian dollar (FJD), and VAT sits at 12.5% since August 2025, usually already in the quoted price. Check Fiji Airways if a domestic hop ever beats a road leg on your dates.
Five days is the point where an island stay stops feeling rushed. If a sixth day appears, the honest upgrade is the Yasawas, not a second Mamanuca resort.
