Fiji 6 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Six days in Fiji is where a Yasawa run finally makes sense. This trades the second Mamanuca night in the 5 day version of this route for a longer push north into the Yasawas, a genuine 2 to 8 hour boat leg each way that only pays off once you have this many days. It nests inside the 7 day plan once a Suva day fits.
Book these before you go: the Sabeto hot springs and mud pool , the Coral Coast kava and Natadola combo tour , the Mamanuca Islands Explorer day cruise , and a Yasawa Islands resort room, which needs more lead time to book than a Mamanuca stay given how few beds sit that far up the chain.
Day 1: Nadi and the Sabeto mud pools
Land at Nadi International Airport (NAN), not Suva’s Nausori. Taxi to Nadi town, roughly FJD15-20; to Port Denarau, FJD30-45 or a shuttle around FJD13 per person. Spend the afternoon at the Sabeto hot springs and mud pool (FJD10 to look, FJD20 for the mud bath and springs, cash-only in practice) and the Garden of the Sleeping Giant (FJD20 adult, 9am to 5pm). A Denarau hotel works fine for the night.
Day 2: A Mamanuca day cruise
Ride South Sea Cruises’ Mamanuca Islands Explorer, roughly 3 hours from Port Denarau, FJD159 (about USD72), hotel transfers included. Southseacruisesfiji.com has current timing. Treat this as a preview of the reef you will see properly later in the week.
Day 3: The Coral Coast on the Queens Road
Drive the Queens Road toward the Coral Coast: the Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park (FJD10 adult, guided walks FJD50-100, open 8am to 4:30pm) and the Coral Coast kava ceremony and Natadola Beach combo tour, the one stretch of this lagoon with genuinely deep, swimmable sand.
Day 4: Transfer out to the Mamanucas
Take the Yasawa Flyer or a resort transfer boat from Port Denarau, 15 to 45 minutes to a Mamanuca resort, using South Sea Cruises’ resort transfers or the resort’s own boat. Overnight here rather than pushing straight to the Yasawas the same day.
Day 5: Onward to the Yasawas
Continue north on the Yasawa Flyer, a genuinely different order of transit time, 2 to 8 hours depending how far up the chain your resort sits, the vessel calling at multiple islands along the way. Check rates on Booking.com for a Yasawa resort; the exact one-way Flyer fare shifts by destination and fuel surcharges, so confirm the current price and your pickup window directly with the operator before you leave the Mamanucas.
Day 6: A day in the Yasawas, then back to Nadi
Spend the morning near the Blue Lagoon area or, if your resort runs the trip, at the Sawa-i-Lau caves, a two-chamber limestone system with a swimmable pool and a guide-led inner chamber. This is a fast, compressed taste of the Yasawas rather than a lazy multi-night stay; for that, add a day and see the 7 day version of this route. Catch the Flyer’s return run back to Denarau in time for an evening flight out of Nadi, or an overnight in Nadi if your flight is the next morning.
Getting around and money
Fiji drives on the left. The currency is the Fijian dollar (FJD), and VAT sits at 12.5% since August 2025, usually already in the quoted price. Check Fiji Airways if a domestic hop ever beats a road leg on your dates.
The Yasawas are worth the transit time once, but not on a schedule this tight twice. If a seventh day appears, spend it on Suva, not another island hop.
