Attractions and Tours in Charlotte Amalie
Charlotte Amalie has a handful of ticketed attractions rather than a long menu of organised attraction tours. Most are small, and several keep limited or seasonal hours. Pick two or three of the entries below to build a half day.
Coral World Ocean Park
Coral World at Coki Point is the largest paid attraction on the island. Admission is US$29 for adults aged 13 and over and US$17 for children aged 3 to 12, under 3s are free, seniors aged 65 and over get 10 percent off, and a family pass costs US$100. The park opens from 9 am to 4 pm and the ticket booth closes at 3 pm. From October to April and in July it opens seven days a week. In May, June, August and September it opens Tuesday to Saturday.
The Undersea Observatory is the centrepiece, and presentations run through the day: sea lions at 11:00 and 2:00, a shark feeding at 1:00 and a turtle talk. There are touch tanks as well. Dolphin, sea lion and shark programmes, Sea Trek and Snuba are optional paid extras that the park supervises, and each visitor decides whether they are comfortable with them.
Skyride and Pirate’s Treasure
The Skyride at Havensight carries you up to Paradise Point, and the Pirate’s Treasure museum is at the same site. A joint ticket is advertised at about US$49.95 for adults and US$34.95 for children. The plain Skyride fare is US$34.95 for adults and US$24.95 for children. The ride mainly operates on cruise-ship days, so read the dated schedule before you go.
Fort Christian
Danish builders began Fort Christian in the 1670s, and it is the oldest landmark in the territory. Entry is US$10 per person. Hours are usually Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm, though another official listing says 9 am to 3 pm, and it closes on public holidays. The territory’s government runs the museum, and its future has been under public discussion, so call (340) 776-4566 before you walk over.
Blackbeard’s Castle
Blackbeard’s Castle is the old Skytsborg tower, dating from the late 1600s, at the top of the 99 Steps in town. It closed after Hurricane Irma in 2017. Local listings now show limited hours, with Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 am to 3 pm in the October to August season, so confirm before you climb. The steps themselves have been under renovation, and the public was asked to keep out, so ask locally about the route.
Hassel Island and Frenchtown
Hassel Island sits in the harbour and is run by the National Park Service. You reach it by kayak or boat, and you should arrange your crossing on the day. In Frenchtown, the volunteer-run French Heritage Museum does not publish regular hours, so call 340-714-2583 first.
