A Romantic Break in Ksamil
Ksamil is a beach village, and romance here comes from timing rather than from any one venue. The best moments are early in the morning, late in the afternoon and in the shoulder months. Most businesses close from about October to April, so a couple travelling then should expect a quiet coast and check that restaurants are open. Prices are in Albanian lek (ALL), and cash is needed for many small payments.
An early swim or paddle to the nearest islet
The nearest islet is about 70 to 100 m from the main bay. Before about 10:00 the water is calm and the bay is almost empty, which is when the crossing is most pleasant. There are no lifeguards, and boat traffic is the main hazard in July and August, so stay close together, keep to the calm hours and wear water shoes on the sharp rock. Paddleboard or pedalo hire is about 1,000 ALL per hour in season.
Sunset at Lekuresi Castle
Lekuresi Castle stands above Saranda, about 18 km north of Ksamil, roughly 10 minutes by road above the centre. The Ottomans built it in the 16th century, traditionally dated to 1537. The grounds are free, and a terrace restaurant built into the walls looks over Saranda bay and Corfu. It keeps its own hours, usually afternoon into evening, and it is best to reserve a table for sunset. Prices there are mid to upper range. See the himara.net page on the castle for background.
Beach light after 16:30
Many day-trippers leave around 16:30, and the beach becomes calmer with softer light. A sunbed for two, which means two loungers and an umbrella, costs about 1,500 to 3,000 ALL at the summer peak, and some venues treat it as a minimum spend on food and drink. Free stretches of sand exist at the water’s edge, and part of Paradise Beach is public. Lori Beach is the shallow, sheltered one, about 700 m west of the centre.
Seafood dinner in the village
Mussels from the lake and grilled fish are the local specialty. A long-running beach-front taverna such as Guvat or Abiori appears in 2026 guides, though hours vary and many close in winter, so ask your hotel before walking over.
Choosing your months
May, June and September are the quiet shoulder months, with lower sunbed prices than July and August and fewer boats on the water. June sunbeds run about 1,500 to 2,500 ALL, and mid to late September about 1,500 to 2,000 ALL.
A slow day with ruins
Butrint National Park is about 4 km south, with shaded paths through the woods and views over the channel. An adult ticket is 1,000 ALL.
