Sydney 3 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Three days is our 2-day plan , the harbour core and Bondi, plus one more day for Taronga Zoo across the water. If Darling Harbour or Manly matter more to you than the zoo, our 4-day and 5-day plans work both in without cutting anything here.

Day 1: Circular Quay, the Opera House and the Bridge
Book the Opera House’s official guided tour ($48-50 adult, via the box above) for the morning; it’s the only way past the foyer without a performance ticket, and the forecourt outside is free either way. Spend midday in The Rocks, Sydney’s oldest quarter, then walk the free Harbour Bridge pedestrian path in the afternoon, or pay roughly $25-30 for the Pylon Lookout’s enclosed 360-degree view, a tenth of BridgeClimb’s $328+ full climb. Close the day with a walk through the free Royal Botanic Garden to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, then dinner in the CBD rather than on the quay itself.
Day 2: Bondi Beach and the coastal walk
Take the bus to Bondi (30-40 minutes from the city) and swim only between the flags; Australia’s rip currents cause most of its beach drownings, and Bondi’s patrols exist for exactly that reason. Walk the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, 6 kilometres past Tamarama, Bronte, Clovelly and Gordons Bay, 2-3 hours, entirely free and the best value activity in the city. Bus back from Coogee once you’re done.
Day 3: Taronga Zoo across the harbour
The Taronga Zoo ferry from Circular Quay takes just 12 minutes and is one of the better harbour crossings on its own. Standalone entry runs from about $51 adult, but the Zoo Express combo (ferry, entry, and the Sky Safari cable car, book it through the box above) runs roughly $67-70 and is the better way to do it; full current hours and pricing sit at taronga.org.au . Take the cable car up to the top entrance, then walk downhill through the exhibits, koalas, wombats, platypuses and the harbour-view giraffe enclosure among them, so the hill works with you rather than against you in the afternoon heat.
Is a third day in Sydney worth adding just for the zoo? Yes, if wildlife and harbour views both matter to you; nowhere else in the itinerary pairs the two this well, and the ferry crossing alone justifies half the ticket price. Have dinner in Surry Hills on the way back into the city, its Crown Street strip runs more consistent kitchens than anything near the quay.
