Day 1: Land and settle into Sydney
Check in and get oriented; save the deep city sightseeing for a dedicated visit and our Sydney 4 day itinerary . A Circular Quay walk covers the harbour view for free.
Day 2: Blue Mountains
Central to Katoomba direct on the NSW TrainLink Blue Mountains Line, about two hours, roughly 9-10 AUD one-way. Echo Point and the Three Sisters, inside the Blue Mountains National Park , are free; the Scenic World Unlimited Discovery Pass, about 55 AUD adult, adds the Railway, Skyway and Cableway.
Day 3: Hunter Valley wine country
Two to two and a half hours by car, or a guided wine tour if you’d rather not designate a driver. Public transport here runs three to four and a half hours door to door, genuinely impractical for a day trip.
Day 4: Royal National Park
Train to Cronulla, then a roughly 30-minute ferry to Bundeena, about an hour and a half door to door, or an hour by car. Walk or ferry in and it’s free; drive in and a vehicle entry fee of 12 AUD per day applies. Check the ferry timetable both ways on transportnsw.info before you leave, services are limited outside peak times.
Is Royal National Park worth a full day, or a half day? A half day covers the ferry crossing, a short section of the Coast Track and lunch in Bundeena. A full day lets you walk further along the Coast Track before turning back for the last ferry, worth it if a coastal hike is more your thing than beach time.
Can you swap the order of these four days? Yes, none of them depend on each other. Put Royal National Park earlier if the weather forecast favors a coastal day sooner, and save Hunter Valley for whichever day suits a slower, later start.
Check the Bundeena ferry schedule before you leave your hotel; it runs less frequently than city ferries and missing the last one back means an unplanned taxi.
