Busan 5 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)

Book these before you go
- Buy a T-money card on arrival, roughly 3,000-5,000 KRW.
- Search Busan-Gyeongju day tours if you’d rather not sort out the KTX and local bus connections yourself.
- Check hotel rates in Busan : book ahead if your trip overlaps BIFF in October.
Day 1: Haeundae, Haedong Yonggungsa and Gwangalli
Morning: Land at Gimhae International Airport, take the light rail or an airport bus into the city, roughly 30-50 minutes. Check in, then Haeundae Beach , 1.46km of sand, swimmable June through September.
Afternoon: Bus or taxi to Haedong Yonggungsa , a rare seaside temple on coastal rocks near Gijang. Free entry.
Evening: Gwangalli Beach for the Gwangan Bridge lit up at night. A market meal runs roughly 8,000-12,000 KRW.
Things to know: Haeundae is the sensible first base.
Day 2: Gamcheon, Jagalchi and BIFF Square
Morning: Gamcheon Culture Village , a 1955 Korean War refugee shantytown art-revitalized only from 2009. Stamp-tour map roughly 2,000 KRW; go before 11am.
Afternoon: Jagalchi Market : buy downstairs, eat upstairs. BIFF Square nearby for ssiat hotteok.
Evening: Gukje Market, the Korean War refugee market and setting of Ode to My Father.
Things to know: Cards work in restaurants; carry won for market stalls.
Day 3: Gyeongju, the top day trip
Morning: Gyeongju , the former Silla capital, about an hour by KTX or express bus. Bulguksa Temple and the nearby Seokguram Grotto, both UNESCO.
Afternoon: The royal tumuli, Silla-era burial mounds in the city center. Add Anapji if time allows.
Evening: Return to Busan by early evening.
Things to know: A KTX or express-bus ticket is inexpensive relative to what you’ll see.
Day 4: Beomeosa Temple and Centum City
Morning: Beomeosa Temple , founded in 678, one of Korea’s great mountain temples. Walk part of the Geumjeongsanseong fortress wall above it.
Afternoon: Centum City’s Shinsegae, a Guinness-certified world’s largest department store, houses Spa Land.
Evening: BEXCO and the Busan Cinema Center sit in the same district.
Things to know: Beomeosa and Haedong Yonggungsa are both active places of worship.
Day 5: Tongyeong, “the Naples of the East”
Morning: Bus to Tongyeong, roughly 1.5 hours from Busan, a coastal city built around a working harbor. The Hallyeo Waterway cable car gives a panoramic view over the surrounding archipelago.
Afternoon: Dongpirang Village, a mural-covered hillside neighborhood with the same photogenic energy as Gamcheon, minus Busan’s crowds. Fresh seafood by the harbor for lunch.
Evening: Bus back to Busan; keep the evening light after two full days of travel back to back.
Things to know: Confirm the return bus schedule before you go; the last services back to Busan run earlier than you’d expect from a coastal day-trip town.
