Busan 3 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)

Book these before you go
- Buy a T-money card on arrival, roughly 3,000-5,000 KRW.
- Search Busan-Gyeongju day tours if you’d rather not sort out the KTX and local bus connections yourself.
- Check hotel rates in Busan : book Haeundae or Nampo-dong ahead if your trip overlaps BIFF in October.
Day 1: Haeundae, Haedong Yonggungsa and Gwangalli
Morning: Land at Gimhae International Airport, take the light rail or an airport bus into the city, roughly 30-50 minutes. Check in, then head to Haeundae Beach , 1.46km of sand, free to walk and swimmable June through September.
Afternoon: Bus or taxi to Haedong Yonggungsa , a rare seaside temple on coastal rocks near Gijang, unlike the mountain temples elsewhere in Korea. Free entry.
Evening: Gwangalli Beach for the Gwangan Bridge lit up at night. A market meal runs roughly 8,000-12,000 KRW; a seafood platter at Millak Raw Fish Town is the splurge option.
Things to know: Haeundae is the sensible first base, beach access plus good metro connections.
Day 2: Gamcheon, Jagalchi and BIFF Square
Morning: Gamcheon Culture Village , a 1955 Korean War refugee shantytown art-revitalized only from 2009, not a themed village built for photos. Buy the stamp-tour map (roughly 2,000 KRW) and go before 11am.
Afternoon: Jagalchi Market , Korea’s largest seafood market: buy a live catch downstairs, have it cooked upstairs. BIFF Square nearby is the street-food strip built around the film festival’s original screenings, ssiat hotteok is the reason to queue.
Evening: Gukje Market, the Korean War refugee market and setting of Ode to My Father, for a last unhurried hour.
Things to know: Cards work in restaurants; carry won for market stalls.
Day 3: Gyeongju, the top day trip
Morning: Gyeongju , the former capital of the Silla kingdom, “the museum without walls,” is about an hour from Busan by KTX or express bus. Start at Bulguksa Temple, a UNESCO site alongside the nearby Seokguram Grotto.
Afternoon: Walk the royal tumuli, the grass-covered burial mounds of Silla kings in the city center, genuinely unlike any other city skyline in Korea. Add Anapji (Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond) if time allows.
Evening: Return to Busan by early evening; keep dinner simple back in Haeundae or Seomyeon after a full day of walking.
Things to know: A KTX or express-bus ticket is inexpensive relative to what you’ll see; buy it same-day or a day ahead, seats rarely sell out on this route outside major holidays.
