Seattle Walking Tours and Neighborhood Walks
Seattle is a good city to explore on foot, though it is genuinely hilly, so comfortable shoes matter. Prices are in US dollars and exclude sales tax. Dates and hours change, so check each operator before you plan around a departure.
Friends of the Market tours
Friends of the Pike Place Market runs Saturday market tours that meet under the Public Market Center clock. Adults pay $18, seniors $12 and children 6 to 12 $10. A tour lasts about 1.5 hours and is limited to 10 people, so advance booking is the only way in. History tours are also listed for 24 and 31 October 2026 at 2 p.m. See the Friends of the Market tour page for dates.
Savor Seattle food tour
The Original Food and Culture Tour costs $65, runs two to two and a half hours and includes 14 or more tastings. It meets at 2004 First Ave. Come hungry and tell the operator about any allergies when you book. The Savor Seattle tour page has current details.
Underground Tour in Pioneer Square
The tour at 614 First Ave lasts about 75 minutes and departs on the hour from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Expect stairs, uneven ground and spotty lighting. Tickets can be bought in advance up to two hours before the start. Look at the operator’s what-to-expect page for current ticket prices.
Wing Luke Historic Hotel Tour
The Wing Luke Museum at 719 S King St runs a free Historic Hotel Tour Wednesday to Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on a first-come basis. It explores the Chinatown-International District, and museum admission is separate at $25.95 for adults. See the Wing Luke visit page for closed days.
Chittenden Locks tour
The Army Corps of Engineers runs a free daily tour of the Ballard Locks, reported at 2 p.m. on days the visitor center is open. Hours change by season and sources disagree, so call or check before you go.
Self-guided routes
- Pioneer Square: red-brick streets rebuilt after the 1889 Great Fire.
- The waterfront and the Overlook Walk: a free elevated park that links Pike Place Market to Elliott Bay, with an elevator and steps. It opened on 4 October 2024.
- Chinatown-International District around Hing Hay Park, which pairs well with the museum.
Tips for walking Seattle
Wear layers and bring a rain jacket, because showers can come in off the Sound at any time of year. Link light rail runs a flat $3.00 for adults and riders 18 and under travel free, which makes it easy to ride out and walk back. Keep an eye on bags in crowded market aisles. Stay on paved paths near the water, since Puget Sound is cold even in summer.
