Romantic Monaco: Gardens, Harbour, Dinner
Monaco suits a short romantic stay because its best settings are compact: cliff-edge gardens, a yacht harbour, grand dining rooms and a spa all sit within a few minutes of each other. This page groups them by time of day and gives the practical rules for each.
Dinner
Le Louis XV, Alain Ducasse, is in the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo and holds three Michelin stars in the 2026 guide. Dinner runs Tuesday to Saturday, with lunch on Fridays and Saturdays. Tasting-menu pricing runs into the hundreds of euros per person, so check the menu when you reserve. Pavyllon Monte-Carlo, by Yannick Alléno at the Hôtel Hermitage, holds one star. The Michelin announcement lists both. For something less formal, the Café de Paris Monte-Carlo on Casino Square is open after its 2023 reopening, though menu prices should be checked before you sit down.
Gardens and views
- Saint-Martin Gardens. These free gardens run along the cliff edge of Monaco-Ville, open roughly 9:00 to 18:00, with views down to Port Hercule and a bronze statue of Prince Albert I.
- Jardin Exotique. Cacti and succulents cling to the cliff, and the terraces look over the harbour. Entry is from EUR 12 for the garden alone, and the full price grid is on the garden’s visit page .
- Princess Grace Rose Garden. In Fontvieille park, this free garden is open day and night and has hundreds of rose varieties and a bronze statue of the princess. Buses 4 and 6 stop at “Roseraie”. Read the garden’s page .
Evening
Port Hercule, the superyacht harbour, is the place for a slow walk at dusk. The casino atrium is free to enter, and the games rooms open from 14:00 for adults aged 18 and over. Entry is EUR 20 and includes EUR 10 to spend. Bring a passport or EU national ID card, and note the dress code: no shorts, sportswear, trainers or beachwear, and no T-shirts or sweatshirts after 19:00. Residents of Monaco may not gamble.
Spa time
Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo sells wellness access at about EUR 160 on weekdays and about EUR 200 at weekends, with more favourable rates when you book larger treatments. Confirm prices and any summer package when you book.
Staying over
Hotels in Monaco are expensive, and Nice is the cheaper base for a longer trip. Compare options on Booking.com . Spring and autumn are quieter than Grand Prix week (4 to 6 June 2027) and Yacht Show week (22 to 25 September 2027), when rooms are scarce and dearest.
Small rules
Swimwear, bare chests and bare feet are fine on the beach but can be fined elsewhere in the principality. Cards are accepted almost everywhere.
