Romantic Aruba: Sunsets, Dinner, Coves
A Romantic Few Days on Aruba
Aruba gives couples calm water, steady breezes and long sunsets over the west coast. The ideas below cover dinner, a sail, a quiet beach and a few places that look best at the edge of the day. Prices are in US dollars, and sunset times shift through the year, so check them when you plan.
Dinner With Your Feet in the Water
The Flying Fishbone, at Savaneta 344, sets tables in shallow water on the beach, at sea level rather than on a cliff. The water tables can be reserved for 4:00 pm only and fill many weeks ahead, so book through flyingfishbone.com as soon as your dates are fixed. Passions on the Beach at Amsterdam Manor on Eagle Beach and Atardi at the Marriott on Palm Beach are two other beachfront dinner spots; confirm they are open for your dates.
Sunset Sails
Several operators run catamaran sunset cruises, including Pelican Adventures, Red Sail Sports and Jolly Pirates. Prices vary by operator and menu, roughly from $55 up to $100 per person, and a Red Sail sunset sail is listed at about $79. Book a day or two ahead and bring a light layer for the breeze once the sun goes down.
Flamingo Beach on Renaissance Island
This is an adults-only beach on a resort island. Resort guests have access, and a limited number of day passes go on sale online for non-guests. Passes sell out quickly and there are no walk-up tickets. Adult prices run roughly $125 to $150. Booking is through the resort’s page at renaissancearuba.idaypass.com . Do not feed the flamingos outside the resort’s own rules.
Quiet Coves at Sunrise
Tres Trapi and Boca Catalina in Malmok are small coves that are calm early in the morning. Tres Trapi has cushion sea stars and grazing turtles; look but do not touch, and keep your distance. Arrive before the tour boats to have the water mostly to yourselves.
Lighthouse and Chapel
The California Lighthouse in Noord costs $5 to climb and is open daily from 9:00 to 19:00, which makes it an easy late-afternoon stop before sunset. The Alto Vista Chapel, also in Noord, has free entry and a Stations of the Cross route. The current chapel was completed in 1952 on the site of a chapel first built in 1750.
Where to Stay
For a romantic stay, pick a hotel on the west coast, where evening views face the sea. Compare hotels on Booking.com .
Practical Notes
Do not leave valuables in a parked car. Hurricane season runs from June to November.
