Romantic Abu Dhabi: Dome, Tea and Kayaks
Travel advisory: A romantic trip needs a clear view of the current risks. The UAE has been caught up in the 2026 conflict between the United States and Iran, with Iranian missiles and drones fired at the country from 28 February and debris from intercepted missiles falling on parts of Abu Dhabi. The UK FCDO reports strikes and retaliatory attacks across the region since 8 July. It does not advise against travel to the UAE, while the US State Department rates it Level 3, “Reconsider Travel”. Flights can be delayed or cancelled, and phone alerts may tell you to shelter indoors until an all-clear. Filming strikes or interceptions is illegal. Read the UK FCDO advice and the US advisory , and keep your bookings flexible. This page describes a trip in calm conditions.
Abu Dhabi suits couples who like architecture, water views and quiet evenings, and the best moments here come after sunset when the heat eases. Prices are in UAE dirhams (AED, about 3.67 to the US dollar). Summer highs of 40 to 46 degrees C make winter, from November to March, the best time for evenings outdoors.
Louvre Abu Dhabi after dark
The museum’s dome and building stay open until midnight, with last entry at 11pm, and entrance to the dome is free. The galleries close earlier, at 6:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30pm Friday to Sunday, and adult tickets cost AED 70. The museum calls its late programme Museum After Dark, and the official page has the current details. Kayaking beneath the dome runs Tuesday to Sunday for about AED 126 for 60 minutes, which suits two people who want something active.
Afternoon tea at Emirates Palace
Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental welcomes visitors for dining and afternoon tea if they dress smart-casual, which means no shorts, flip-flops or exposed garments. Reseller guides put afternoon tea at roughly US$90 to 130 per person, and prices vary, so check with the hotel. Alcohol is served only in licensed venues such as hotel restaurants, and the legal drinking age is 21.
Sunrise or sunset in the Jubail mangroves
Jubail Mangrove Park offers guided kayaking, with sunrise and sunset slots listed at about AED 120 per person. The park does not publish prices, so check with Jubail Island . Bring water and a hat.
Palace in Motion at Qasr Al Watan
Qasr Al Watan stages Palace in Motion, an evening light and sound show. One listing says it runs at weekends only, so check the palace site before planning a dinner around it. Tickets to the palace are about AED 65, and dress covers knees and shoulders.
Dinner on the Yas Marina waterfront
Cipriani Yas Island and Stars ‘N’ Bars appear on Visit Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina listing, so they make a starting point for a waterfront dinner. Check menus and booking on each venue’s own page.
An overnight in the desert or on an island
Sir Bani Yas, about 250 km west with a short boat transfer, and Liwa, about 250 km south, are the two overnight options. Resort status changes, so confirm that any property you choose is operating. Search stays through Abu Dhabi hotel listings .
Conduct for couples
Public affection is frowned upon, and kissing in public can lead to arrest, so keep it private. Swearing and rude gestures, including online, are offences. Consensual relationships between unmarried adults are generally legal, but can be prosecuted if a family member complains. Being drunk in a public place is illegal, and drink-driving carries zero tolerance.
