Abu Dhabi Stays of Two to Four Nights
Travel advisory: Before planning a stay of several nights, know that the UAE has been affected by the 2026 conflict between the United States and Iran. Iranian missiles and drones were fired at the country from 28 February, and debris from intercepted missiles fell on parts of Abu Dhabi. The UK FCDO says strikes and retaliatory attacks have taken place across the region since 8 July and that further attacks and escalation are possible. It does not advise against travel to the UAE, and the US State Department rates the country Level 3, “Reconsider Travel”. Airspace closures and flight delays can disrupt a multi-night plan, so choose flexible bookings. Obey phone alerts to shelter indoors, and do not film or post strikes or interceptions. Read the UK FCDO page and the US State Department page before you book. The plans below are for calm conditions.
A multi-day Abu Dhabi trip works best as a base in the city with one overnight outside it. The main sights are grouped by district, and each group needs roughly half a day to a full day. Money is in UAE dirhams (AED, about 3.67 to the US dollar). From May to September, put outdoor visits at dawn or dusk and use museums at midday. November to March is the comfortable season.
Three days in the city
Day 1: the Grand Mosque and Qasr Al Hosn. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque charges AED 10 for visitors from outside the UAE since September 2026, and its guided cultural tours are free. Hours are Saturday to Thursday 9am to 8:30pm, and Friday 9am to 11:30am then 2:30pm to 8:30pm. Women need ankle-length loose clothing, sleeves to the wrists and hair fully covered. Qasr Al Hosn, the oldest stone building in the city, is open Saturday to Thursday 9am to 8pm and Friday 2pm to 8pm, with about AED 30 to 35 for adults. See the mosque centre and Qasr Al Hosn for current details.
Day 2: Saadiyat Island. Louvre Abu Dhabi costs AED 70 for adults, and Zayed National Museum, open since 3 December 2025, costs about AED 70. teamLab Phenomena opened in April 2025 with timed tickets at about AED 150. The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is due to open on 11 December 2026.
Day 3: Yas Island. The parks are Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld Yas Island and Yas Waterworld, and one-day tickets run from roughly AED 295 to 375 for a single park. CLYMB, the indoor skydiving and climbing venue, is also here.

City plus Al Ain, two to three nights
A night in Al Ain gives the oasis, a Jebel Hafeet sunset and Al Ain Zoo room to breathe. The Mercure Grand Jebel Hafeet is reported to be the only hotel on the mountain. The drive from Abu Dhabi takes about 90 minutes.
Sir Bani Yas overnight
The island lies about 250 km west. Allow about 2 hours by road to the Jebel Dhanna jetty plus a short boat ride, so about 3 to 3.5 hours in all. Visit Abu Dhabi lists wildlife drives, kayaking, snorkelling, diving, horse riding and the ruins of an ancient church and monastery on an island with free-roaming cheetahs and giraffes. Anantara resorts are named there, but check that they are operating before you plan around one. The Visit Abu Dhabi guide has details.
Liwa and the Empty Quarter overnight
Liwa is about 250 km from the city, a drive of 2.5 to 3 hours, and Tal Moreeb lies about 25 km beyond it on a paved road. Confirm that any desert resort is open before you commit.
Abu Dhabi and Dubai together
The two cities are about 1.5 hours apart. A free Cultural Express from Dubai to Louvre Abu Dhabi and Qasr Al Watan is listed on the Louvre site, so check its schedule. Compare stays through Abu Dhabi hotel search .
