Museums and Sights in Doha
Travel advisory, as of November 2026. Qatar was hit by Iranian missile and drone strikes from 28 February 2026, and flights to Doha were suspended before returning in phases from March and April. Missile barrages over Doha were reported again in July, so do not assume a ceasefire is holding. The UK FCDO does not advise against all travel to Qatar but warns of short-notice airport and airspace closures, and the US State Department publishes its own advisory. Check your airline and insurer before you book. Everything below describes normal operations and can change.
The museum core
Doha’s headline sights are its museums, and they share a similar schedule: 09:00 to 19:00 on most days, 09:00 to 21:00 on Thursdays and 13:30 to 19:00 on Fridays. The Museum of Islamic Art is closed on Wednesdays, and the National Museum of Qatar and the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum are closed on Tuesdays. Non-resident adult tickets are reported at about QAR 50 for the Islamic art and sports museums and QAR 25 to 50 for the National Museum. Children aged 16 and under and residents enter free, and Mathaf, the Arab museum of modern art in Education City, is free for all with a ticket and is closed on Mondays. Confirm every price and opening hour on the Qatar Museums site or the National Museum page .
Msheireb Downtown
Msheireb Downtown is a rebuilt district with four heritage houses that form the Msheireb Museums: Bin Jelmood House, Company House, Mohammed Bin Jassim House and Radwani House. Entry is free, and the official hours are Monday to Thursday and Saturday 09:00 to 17:00, Friday 15:00 to 21:00, closed Sunday. Bin Jelmood House documents the history of slavery in the region and asks for a quiet, respectful visit.
Katara, the Pearl and Lusail
Katara Cultural Village has free entry, galleries, an amphitheatre and a pay beach; it stands on the Red Line, away from the Corniche. The Pearl-Qatar’s Qanat Quartier has canal-side lanes and cafes and is a short walk from Legtaifiya station. In Lusail, Place Vendome Mall runs dancing fountains every hour from 19:00 to 23:00 plus a nightly laser show, and the Lusail Tram links it to the Metro.
Qatar National Library
The Qatar National Library in Education City has free entry and is reached by the Green Line to Education City station. It reopened in 2026 after a temporary closure, with reported hours of 08:00 to 20:00 Saturday to Thursday and 16:00 to 20:00 on Fridays, so check its website before you go.
World Heritage and beyond the city
Al Zubarah Archaeological Site, inscribed by UNESCO in 2013 , is Qatar’s only World Heritage Site, about 100 km northwest of Doha. Entry is reported to be free and the opening hours are inconsistent between sources, so confirm with Qatar Museums. Allow half a day.
On the water and in the souq
The Corniche is a long promenade round Doha Bay and is pleasant in the early morning or at sunset between November and March. Souq Waqif is open late into the evening, and its Falcon Souq is listed 09:00 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 20:00 on weekdays, with evenings only on Fridays.
Practical tips
- The Metro runs three lines with Msheireb as the interchange for all three; a single journey is about QAR 2.
- Dress covers shoulders and knees, and the rules are strictly enforced in government buildings and health facilities.
- Photograph people only with consent, and never military, government or construction sites.
- Summer heat reaches 40C or more, so plan sights between November and March.
