Family Days Out in Doha
Travel advisory, as of November 2026. Qatar was hit by Iranian missile and drone strikes from 28 February 2026, and flights to Doha were suspended before returning in phases from March and April. Missile barrages over Doha were reported again in July, so do not assume a ceasefire is holding. The UK FCDO does not advise against all travel to Qatar but warns of short-notice airport and airspace closures, and the US State Department publishes its own advisory. Check your airline and insurer before you book, especially with children. Everything below describes normal operations and can change.
Museums with free entry for children
Children aged 16 and under enter the Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum of Qatar and the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum free of charge, according to recent guides, so a family only pays for the adults. Non-resident adult tickets are reported at about QAR 50 at the Islamic art and sports museums and QAR 25 to 50 at the National Museum, so confirm on the Qatar Museums site . Mathaf, the Arab museum of modern art in Education City, is free for everyone but needs a ticket and is closed on Mondays. The National Museum is closed on Tuesdays, the Islamic art museum on Wednesdays and the sports museum on Tuesdays.
Free places to spend an hour
Qatar National Library in Education City has free entry and a striking open interior. It reopened in 2026 after a temporary closure, and reported hours are 08:00 to 20:00 Saturday to Thursday and afternoons only on Fridays, so check its website first. The Education City stop is on the Green Line of the Metro. The Msheireb Museums are free as well and open Friday 15:00 to 21:00 and Monday to Thursday and Saturday 09:00 to 17:00; they suit older children better than toddlers.
A water park day
Desert Falls Water and Adventure Park is inside Hilton Salwa Beach Resort at Abu Samra, about an hour to an hour and a quarter by road from central Doha. Reported prices are about QAR 195 for adults and QAR 150 for children, with laser tag and go-karts around QAR 85 a session extra. Prices change by date, so check before you travel. Allow for the long drive and the heat on the way back.
Family outing to Al Khor
Baladna Park is a dairy-farm park on the North Road near Al Khor, about 40 minutes to an hour from Doha. Tickets are sold at the park, with paid extras for some activities. Hours on an older official announcement were Saturday to Thursday 10:00 to 19:00 and Friday 13:00 to 22:00. Look and learn at a distance rather than touching animals.
Evenings out
Place Vendome Mall in Lusail runs a dancing-fountain show every hour from 19:00 to 23:00 with a nightly laser show. Take the Metro to Legtaifiya and change to the Lusail Tram. The Pearl’s Qanat Quartier has pastel canal-side lanes that are pleasant for a short family stroll in the cooler months. Katara Cultural Village has free entry and a pay beach with seasonal hours.
Heat and safety
Between June and September the daytime temperature reaches 40C or more, so keep outdoor plans to early morning or after sunset and carry water. Between November and March the weather suits parks and walks. Dress is modest: shoulders and knees covered for everyone. Public affection between couples can lead to trouble.
Getting around with children
Uber and Karwa taxis work across the city. The driverless Metro costs about QAR 2 a journey, with a daily cap reported at QAR 6, and free feeder buses serve some stations. Child seats are worth asking about when you book a car.
