Quebec City With Children
Quebec City works well with children because the old town is compact, the sights are physical (walls, cannons, a funicular), and several big attractions sit within 30 minutes. Prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD), and several are quoted before the 14.975% tax.
Easy wins in the old town
The funicular links Dufferin Terrace to Petit-Champlain. A one-way ride is 7 CAD for adults, payment is cash only at the station, and children under 117 cm ride free. It runs from 9:00 to 21:00 and later in the high season.
The Citadelle is a working military base, entered on a 60-minute outdoor guided tour. Children 10 and under are free, ages 11 to 17 pay 8 CAD, and a family ticket for two adults and up to three children is 50. Wednesday to Sunday mornings in summer you can catch the changing of the guard at 10:00.
The Plains of Abraham Museum, at 835 avenue Wilfrid-Laurier, includes Martello Tower 1. Children aged 5 to 12 were free from 19 June to 7 September 2026 and about 4.75 CAD afterward, and a family ticket was 32.50. At the Musée de la civilisation, ages 5 and under are free, ages 6 to 11 pay 6, and a family pays 58.
Water, animals and snow
Aquarium du Québec is in Sainte-Foy, at 1675 avenue des Hôtels, run by Sépaq. It shows polar bears, walruses, harbour seals, leopard sharks, a giant Pacific octopus, jellyfish and touch tanks. Summer opening is 9:00 to 18:00 and it closes on 25 December. Prices depend on residency, so adults pay roughly 25 to 34 CAD, with children about half. Some building works continue on the grounds, so look at the Sépaq page before leaving.
Parc de la Chute-Montmorency has a suspension bridge across the top of the falls, a cable car and a staircase of 487 steps. Daily access is charged per person, with adults at about 13.90 CAD in high season and lower rates for children. The cable car, zip line and via ferrata cost extra.
In winter, Village Vacances Valcartier runs a snow play centre from 3 January to 21 March 2027, and the Hôtel de Glace sits next door. Ticket prices follow height: a child under 1 m is free and a child from 1 m to under 1.32 m pays about 29.99 CAD online before tax. Bora Parc, an indoor waterpark with about 14 water slides, stays open all year.
Rainy days
Méga Parc, in the Galeries de la Capitale at 5401 boulevard des Galeries, is an indoor amusement park, and its Patinarium is billed as the longest indoor skating trail in Canada. Admission to the park started at 7.99 CAD, with rides priced separately.
Practical notes
Cobbled lanes and stairs are hard on strollers, so a carrier helps in Lower Town. In winter the steps ice over, and children need grippy boots and mittens. Keep children away from the St. Lawrence shore. Families can ride Québec City buses with up to three children aged 6 to 12 free per adult with a valid fare.
