Hiking Trails and Walks in Seychelles
The best walking in Seychelles is on Mahe, where Morne Seychellois National Park covers about 3,045 hectares, more than 20 percent of the island, with some 15 km of marked trails. Praslin and La Digue offer shorter, flatter forest walks. Trails are short but steep and humid, so start early, carry water and wear shoes with grip. Petty theft from unattended bags and cars at trailheads is reported, so leave valuables behind.
Copolia Trail, Mahe
Copolia is 1.2 km long with about 180 m of ascent and takes roughly 1 hour 30 minutes. The park authority rates it medium to high difficulty. The trailhead and ticket office are about 6 km up Sans Souci Road from Victoria. The path crosses a stream and turns steep afterwards, then climbs onto a granite glacis with views over the north-east coast, Ste Anne Marine Park and the inner islands. Pitcher plants grow along the route. The ticket costs SCR 100, and the trail is open 08:00 to 16:00.
Trois Freres Trail, Mahe
This trail is 1.4 km with about 411 m of elevation and takes around 1 hour. It is rated medium and costs SCR 150, with hours of 08:00 to 16:00. The route beyond the trail to the Trois Freres cross is not suitable for hiking and has no access, so stay on the official path.
Anse Major Trail, Mahe
The trail starts at Danzil, Bel Ombre and ends at Anse Major beach. Reported distances are about 2 to 2.5 km and 45 to 75 minutes each way, and bus 21 from Victoria runs to Danzil. A boat back is reported at around SCR 150, but this is not confirmed. The ticket is SCR 150. There is no lifeguard at the beach, so treat it as a place to rest, not a swimming spot.
Morne Seychellois summit
The 905 m summit needs a licensed guide, and the ticket costs SCR 250. Tickets are sold from 08:00 to 12:00. Official trails in the park include Copolia, Mare aux Cochons, Salazie, Trois Freres, Anse Major, Morne Blanc and Dans Gallas. Morne Blanc is near the old tea factory and ends at a platform viewpoint. Operators say the SCR 250 park fee applies there.
Praslin and La Digue
The paths in the Vallee de Mai run about 1.5 to 4 km. Entry is SCR 450, and a free map leaflet is handed out at the gate. The Veuve Special Reserve on La Digue costs SCR 150 unguided or SCR 200 guided and is flat and shaded. The Curieuse mangrove boardwalk is 433 m long and easy.
Easy walks in Victoria
A short loop through Victoria takes in the Clock Tower, the temporary market site on Albert Street and the National Botanical Garden, which costs SCR 250. The market’s historic building is closed for renovation.
Tickets and tips
Park tickets are per person per park and valid for one day. Payment at the gate is by card only, and SPGA sells tickets online. Entering without a permit risks a fine of SCR 600. Carry enough water, keep to marked trails, and turn back if rain makes granite slabs slick. Medical capacity is limited on Praslin and La Digue, so carry insurance that covers evacuation.
