Things to Do in Liverpool: Beatles and Docks
Liverpool packs most of its best activities into a compact centre, so a few days on foot and by Merseyrail cover a lot. Prices below are in pounds sterling (GBP), many venues are cashless, and several big waterfront museums are closed for rebuilding, so check the notes on closures before you plan.
Beatles attractions
The Beatles Story in the Britannia Pavilion at the Royal Albert Dock charges about GBP 20 for adults, GBP 16 concession and GBP 11 for children aged 5 to 15, with under-5s free. It is cashless and you book a timed slot online. The audio guide comes in 12 languages.
Strawberry Field in Woolton is the former children’s home from Lennon’s song. The exhibition and garden tour is about GBP 12.45 for adults and under-16s go free with a paying adult. Bus 76 runs direct from the city centre.
The Cavern Club on Mathew Street takes payment at the door by card only. Adult entry is about GBP 6, with a longer all-day pass costing more. Live music starts mid-morning and the club stays open late at weekends.
Football
The Liverpool FC Stadium Tour and Museum at Anfield is GBP 26 for adults, with senior and student, child and family tickets priced lower. Everton men now play at the Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, which opened in 2025. Goodison Park runs guided tours on selected dates, with adult tickets about GBP 20 booked through the club. Check the Hill Dickinson tour price before you go.
River, museums and cathedrals
The Mersey Ferries River Explorer is a 50-minute cruise from Pier Head costing GBP 14 for adults. It calls at Seacombe, and the Woodside terminal is closed.
The Museum of Liverpool at Pier Head is free and worth an hour. The Merseyside Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum at the Albert Dock have been closed since January 2025 for redevelopment and will not reopen before 2028. Tate Liverpool is at RIBA North on Mann Island until it returns to the dock in 2027, and entry is free.
Liverpool Cathedral, the Anglican one, opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00. The tower has a last entry of 16:30 and closes on some Sundays for bell ringing. Entry is roughly GBP 8, so check the cathedral site.
Practical tips
- Merseyrail Day Savers cost roughly GBP 5 to GBP 6.50 depending on zones, so check merseyrail.org.
- The Albert Dock is a listed historic waterfront, but Liverpool lost its World Heritage listing in 2021.
- Resellers sell bundles called a Liverpool Pass. They are commercial products rather than an official city card.
