For a base built on day trips, stay near Antwerpen-Centraal. Hotels cluster 2 to 7 minutes from the platforms, mostly budget-to-midrange chains, so every morning starts with a short walk to the train rather than a cross-town tram. It is the single most practical choice for a gateway trip. It also means you can duck back mid-afternoon to drop bags or rest before heading out again, which turns a packed run of day trips into something sustainable across a week rather than a slog.
The trade-off with the old town
