Antwerp: Belgium Festivals Calendar
Antwerp’s train links make it a practical base for chasing events beyond the city too. Frequent direct services put Ghent, Brussels, Mechelen and the coast within a day, so you can sleep in one hotel and follow the Belgian festival calendar around Flanders. Confirm every date below before booking, since organisers finalise the exact 2026 calendar late.
Start with Antwerp’s own summer
Your home base carries the anchor event: Zomer van Antwerpen runs 18 June to 30 August 2026 (verified), a long run of open-air theatre, circus, music and pop-up summer bars. Because it spans the whole summer, it is the reliable fallback on any evening you are back in the city between trips.
Ghent’s summer festival, 46 minutes out
Ghent is the closest big-festival town, 46 minutes to just over an hour by direct train. Its summer street festival, the Gentse Feesten, takes over the medieval centre for about ten days in mid-to-late July with music, theatre and late-night squares (verify exact 2026 dates). Go for the day and take a late train back, or make it the reason you time the trip.
Brussels and Mechelen for one-off days
Brussels, 45 minutes out, keeps the deepest year-round program of concerts, museum nights and seasonal markets; check what is on for the exact days you are in town rather than planning around one event. Mechelen, the 17-minute hop, runs a smaller calendar of cathedral concerts and carillon events, an easy half-day add if something lines up.
The coast in summer
Between roughly May and September, the Belgian coast around Ostend, 1h34 to 1h45 out, hosts seafront concerts, kite festivals and seasonal markets, with the Kusttram linking towns for festival-hopping along the shore. Off-season it goes quiet, so treat coast events as a summer-only option.
Winter markets, town by town
From late November the Christmas markets open across the region. Antwerp’s own runs early December to early January (verify 2026 to 2027 dates), and Ghent, Bruges and Brussels each mount their own, all reachable as day trips. A single Antwerp base lets you sample several markets across a long weekend without moving hotels.
One 2026 transport note
The De Lijn premetro tram tunnel under the Scheldt is closed until roughly the end of March 2027, but that only affects crossing the river inside Antwerp; every day trip above runs from Antwerpen-Centraal’s main-line platforms and is unaffected.
