Venice: 4-Day First Visit Plan
Four days on a first trip means you can slow right down. This plan never asks for more than two big sights a day and leaves each afternoon loose, easing from the busy centre out to the quieter districts and the islands. Prices are 2026 figures, so treat each as verify on site.
Day 1: the city core
Piazza San Marco early: St Mark’s Basilica on a timed slot (nave free, dress code enforced), then the Doge’s Palace next door (about EUR 30 to 35), booked ahead. Bacaro lunch, then the Rialto Bridge and an unhurried afternoon in the surrounding lanes.
First-timer tip: pre-book both sights so day one has no queues.
Day 2: Dorsoduro
Ride Line 1 down the Grand Canal (EUR 9.50) to Dorsoduro, pick one museum, the Accademia or the Peggy Guggenheim, and spend the rest of the day on the Zattere and around Campo Santa Margherita.
First-timer tip: one museum, not two; you will enjoy it more and still have energy to wander.
Day 3: Cannaregio and the Ghetto
Explore Cannaregio at a gentle pace: the Jewish Ghetto (founded 1516), the Strada Nova for everyday shops, and the quiet northern canals. This is the day the city feels lived-in rather than visited.
First-timer tip: have lunch in Cannaregio, not by the station, for better food at lower prices.
Day 4: the lagoon islands
A 24-hour vaporetto pass (about EUR 25) and an early ferry from Fondamente Nove: Burano for the houses, then Murano for the glass. The islands are exempt from the access fee.
First-timer tip: leave the afternoon open in case Burano charms you into staying longer.
