Venice: 6-Day Slow Itinerary
Six days is enough to stop rushing. This plan covers everything the shorter versions do, then adds Giudecca and a Lido beach day and leaves slack in each afternoon. City-centre first, then a widening loop of the lagoon. Prices are 2026 figures, so treat each as verify on site.
Day 1: San Marco and the Rialto
Piazza San Marco before 9am: St Mark’s Basilica on a timed slot (nave free, Pala d’Oro about EUR 5, dress code enforced), then the Doge’s Palace (about EUR 30 to 35) to the Bridge of Sighs. Bacaro lunch, the Rialto market side, a spritz to finish.
Tip: book the first Basilica slot to beat the queues to both big sights.
Day 2: Dorsoduro and the Grand Canal
Line 1 down the Grand Canal (EUR 9.50), then Dorsoduro: the Accademia, the Peggy Guggenheim, the Zattere, and Campo Santa Margherita in the evening.
Tip: a 3-day vaporetto pass (about EUR 45) pays off from here on.
Day 3: Cannaregio and the Ghetto
Cannaregio, the Jewish Ghetto (founded 1516), the Strada Nova, and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in San Polo (about EUR 10).
Tip: eat lunch deep in Cannaregio, well away from the station strip.
Day 4: the lagoon islands
A day of Burano, Torcello and Murano from Fondamente Nove; the islands are exempt from the access fee.
Tip: pack a picnic for Torcello, which has few places to eat.
Day 5: Castello and Giudecca
Quieter Castello, the Arsenale and Biennale gardens, then across to Giudecca for its waterfront and the view back at the city.
Tip: ride the vaporetto to Giudecca at dusk for the skyline in low light.
Day 6: the Lido and a slow finish
Take the ferry to the Lido for a flat seafront and a swim, or the dunes at Alberoni to the south, then a relaxed last evening back in the centre.
Tip: rent a bike at the Lido ferry stop to cover the whole strip in an easy afternoon.
