Venice: 2-Day Veneto Itinerary
Two days is enough to taste both Venice and the Veneto: one day in the city, one day trip to the region’s easiest highlight. Base yourself in Venice near Santa Lucia so day two starts at the platform, and stay overnight to skip the day-tripper access fee. Prices are 2026 figures, so treat each as verify on site.
Day 1: the Venice core
Start at Piazza San Marco before 9am. St Mark’s Basilica on a timed slot (nave free, Pala d’Oro about EUR 5, dress code enforced), then the Doge’s Palace next door (about EUR 30 to 35) through to the Bridge of Sighs. A bacaro lunch, then the Rialto Bridge and market side, and a spritz to finish. This is the whole famous city core in a day.
Tip: book both marquee sights before you travel so day one is walking, not queuing.
Day 2: Padua and the Scrovegni Chapel
Take a regional train from Venezia Santa Lucia to Padua, 25 to 30 minutes, roughly EUR 4 to 9. The highlight is the Scrovegni Chapel and Giotto’s frescoes (full price about EUR 15 plus a EUR 1 fee), but daytime slots never sell same-day, so this must be booked ahead. Fill the rest of the day with Padua’s squares, its market and the Basilica of Saint Anthony.
Tip: reserve the Scrovegni the moment your dates are fixed; it is the one booking on this trip you cannot recover if it sells out.
