Shkodër Attraction Tours: Komani and Theth
Tours and circuits from Shkodër
Most organised attractions near Shkodër are full-day trips into the mountains or onto Komani Lake, plus a few city circuits. Prices below are in euros because operators quote them that way; pay the small extras in lek.
Komani Lake and the Shala River
The Berisha company runs a boat tour on the Shala River from Koman, priced at EUR 20 online or EUR 25 in cash. It leaves at 09:30, spends about 4 hours at the river, and runs from mid-April to early November. Low water can stop the boat short. See the Shala River tour page .
Getting to Koman is the extra cost. The Shkodër minibus to Koman is about EUR 8 each way, and the Berisha one-day tour is about EUR 29 online or EUR 35 in cash. Operator listings with Shkodër pickup run from EUR 26 to 40. Budget about EUR 25 to 40 depending on pickup. Pay in lek or cash; card machines at the dock are unreliable.
Theth National Park day tour
A guided day tour from Shkodër to Theth takes about 8 hours. It covers the Church of Theth (1892, free), the Lock-in Tower (Kulla e Ngujimit, a small entry fee), the Grunas waterfall, a 30 to 45 minute walk from the village, and the Blue Eye of Theth (Syri i Kaltër). The Blue Eye is 25 to 30 minutes by rough track from Theth, then about 1.5 to 2 hours on foot there and back. The water is very cold, better for dangling your feet than swimming.
The day is long: the shuttle leaves Shkodër about 07:00 and the return leaves Theth about 17:00.
Mountain rules for Theth and Komani
- The Theth to Valbona pass walk is a June to mid-September route. Snow can linger into late June, and October is risky.
- Ask the guesthouse the day before about trail and road conditions.
- Start by 07:00 and be over any pass by about 14:00, before afternoon storms.
- Carry 2 litres of water and an offline map, since signal is patchy, and tell the guesthouse your plan.
- Near the border with Kosovo, stay on marked paths because unexploded mines remain around some hill towns. See the UK safety advice .
- The Komani ferry sails from April to early November, once a day each way, so missing it costs you a day.
City circuits
Several operators sell a Shkodër day tour that covers Rozafa Castle and the old town with a guide. You can also do it yourself: Rozafa Castle, the Marubi National Museum of Photography and the Lead Mosque all sit within about 2 to 3 km of each other. The Marubi museum is open daily 09:00 to 19:00 on its visit page , and an adult ticket is 700 ALL, cash only.
Food tour and cooking class
Booking platforms list one cooking class at roughly CAD 71 per adult for 2 hours, and a garden-dinner food tour. Check the exact meeting point and menu on the listing before you pay.
Site of Witness and Memory
The museum on Bulevardi Skënderbeu 26 is a former detention building with original cells. It is a short, solemn visit rather than a tour stop, and mornings are the safest time to go. Tickets are reported at about 150 ALL.
